TERRY's Story

Greetings, and thanks for checking in with me. This is a brief overview of what I have been up to since 1962: I have two sons (Doug & Tom) from my first marriage, and a step-son (Jude) through Shannon. Doug runs a residential repair and maintenance company in Maryland. Tom and Jude graduated from the University of Texas with Tom becoming a chemist/professor at Michigan State University and Jude engaged in real estate sales and investment in downtown Austin. All three sons, and their significant others, are doing great as is our entire family, so we have been blessed in many ways. We do not have any grand children, but who knows, maybe next year we will have a grand child since all 3 sons have marriage plans for 2010! Heidi, our 11 year old golden retriever / pseudo grand daughter, is doing her best to fill in, but... After RMHS, I worked and attended college (Montgomery College, University of MD and BFU) for 6 years after which I was recruited by Ernst & Ernst (now Ernst & Young) and became a CPA in MD and DC. My career with E&Y focused on taxation and business for over 22 years, the last 11 years as a partner. I travelled the globe on business, and pleasure, and learned much as I plumbed the depths of my ignorance. Of course I also had a lot of fun in the process. It was great, but 22 years was a long time, at least for me, and the world and I were changing. I left E&Y and we moved to Austin, TX, which became one of my favorite cities by 1984 and one which I had strong ties. Besides, Shannon was up for an adventure (after several bottles of win...Expand for more
e at the Willard Hotel to celebrate our anniversary) so here we are, deep in the heart of Texas. The transition was fast and easy for me as I became a licensed CPA in Texas and formed a CPA firm (now Hamann & Williamson, LLP). Domestic and international travel continued and I found my way back to DC about 6 times per year so we felt that this was the best of all worlds, for about 13 years, until I bagan organizing a bank and a financial services organization in 2002 which kept me closer to home in Austin, particularly after a huge loss from the passing of my Mom (Edna Mae) on September 17, 2003 two days after by-pass surgery in MD. My family is now spread out from coast to coast and Michigan to Texas so time and distance is indeed an unfortunate barrier. My Dad (90) lives in Leesburg, FL and Shannon's Mom (92) lives in Pittsburgh, PA. Travel to DC is limited so I just resigned my membership in Columbia Country Club in Bethesda, MD after 30 years to turn the page in that chapter; however, we continue to enjoy Barton Creek CC here in Austin which is only 5 minutes away across the canyon. Yes, I do like to play golf, particularly with my sons. We are well and enjoying life, notwithstanding various personal and professional life challenges (Shannon is a psychotherapyst and artist; and I am workaholic, with a private shrink). At days end, we enjoy being outside around the pool (or fireplace when it is cold) with a fine wine, great food, stimulating conversation while watching a brilliant sunset. Well that is all for now, and thanks again for your visit.
