thomas's Story
Thomas is from El Paso, Texas. He is married and has four grown children. Thomas's schools include Austin High School, El Paso High School, Pampa High School and Mar Vista High School. While attending MVHS, Tom worked mornings at The Tijuana Race Track where he groomed four horses. Tom is a retired science teacher and coach and now in his older years, is Self-Employed, owns TT Enterprise and coaches young boxers and is Executive Director of The El Paso Boxing/Martial lArts Hall of Fames.
Tom was born in Balmorhea, Texas, October 2nd,1934.
Tom's Dad, Raymond McKay, was a Cowboy and Rodeo Promoter. Died way too soon.
Tom's Mother, Ermine, was a beauty at Sul Ross Teachers College. She rebounded from the 'Great Depression' to become a teacher of note.
The 'Great Depression' was a stunning blow to the family and Tom and two of his siblings spent a year (1942-43) in St. Margaret's Orphanage in Ysleta, Texas.
Tom was an honor student at Alta Vista Grade School in El Paso and double-promoted twice.

Tom worked for Mountain Bell Telephone Company in El Paso, Texas after graduating from Mar Vista High School.

Tom worked at The Butadiene Plant in Odessa, in the 1950's Texas as an Instrumentman.
Tom was an El Paso Policeman from 1960-1970.
Tom was Co-Director of The El Paso Golden Gloves in 1967 and has been an official for decades.
Tom graduated as a Top Ten Senior from UTEP in 1971.
Tom earned his Masters Degree from UTEP in 1975 with a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Tom was inducted into The El Paso Boxing Hall of Fame twice, once in 1997 and again in 2013.

Tom's children were fortunately raised well and proud to be Americans. Son Mike is a retired firefighter from The El Paso Fire Department. In his youth, Mike was a standout undefeated boxer, a superb wrestler and an excellent weightlifter. For the past ten years Mike has been an ABA/BMX Bike Rider. He has won many Nationals for his age group, The Grand's in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and a World Championship in Canada .In the past three years Mike has won 'The Race of Champions' for his age group. Tom's son, Lesly Shannon, overcame Last Rites as an 18 month old child to become an "A' student, an undefeated boxer, a champion at high school wrestling and presently a Battalion Commander on The Austin Fire Department. Daughter Michelle was a high school beauty and has a daughter, Mikala, also a blond beauty, on a full tennis scholarship in Florida.
