Thomas's Story

Currently working in the Dept. of Microbiology & Immunobiology, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Ma. Previously group leader in the antibiotic research groups at AstraZeneca, Pfizer, and Bristol-Myers Squibb. In late 1970's early 1980's, I was a professor in the Laboratory of Microbiology at The Rockefeller University, New York, NY. Most of my research has been with antibiotic resistant bacteria and identifying new treatments for same. Heavy emphasis on bacterial genetics, genomics, and physiology. 60+ research publications and two books. Haven't really applied much of what I learned at St. Mike's. Don't recall us ever discussing gene transduction or even genes for that matter! We also weren't even allowed to wear jeans. Damn coats and ties. I almost never wear them now, as I have too many memories of hot days in May, marching around practicing for the May Processions (another rather odd exercise when viewed from 50 years away-crowning a statue with flowers). One "hobby" I have is researching and writing Cold War history (we lived in the thick...Expand for more
of it during the 1960's). Have had several articles published, and assisted with the research and writing of a documentary film (PBS) and a book (Naval Institute Press) on Project Azorian, a CIA led effort to recover a sunken Russian ballistic missile submarine from 16,400 feet deep in the North Pacific in 1974. Currently those of us who worked on the book/film are persona non grata with the CIA's Security Division, although the CIA's History folks like us. According to the counter, I have 17,903 characters left to write, .but who really cares? I feel like Matt Damon marooned on Mars, doing a log that maybe no one will ever read. Anyone who does find this, email me at ascdr15 at gmail dot com. Otherwise, it would seem this is a pointless exercise. This is sort of like the Van Halen concert contact clause demanding M&Ms backstage, but under no circumstances absolutely no brown M&Ms. It was put in there to see if anyone ever bothered to read the whole document. Geez, you could write a novelette with the number of characters they give you here….
