Thomas's Story
Life
After 45 years working in higher education I officially retired October 31, 2022. I have thoroughly enjoyed the 45 years, serving as a dean for 22 of those years. I have spent most of the past 10 years caring for my wife, Terry, who passed away May 28, 2023, after the long goodbye of Alzheimer's. We moved to Leslie, Michigan (south of Lansing), to live closer to three of our children and their families and they were a great support the last months of Terry's life.
My last employment was as the Dean of the College of Business and Technology at Eastern Kentucky University (7 years), with my eighth year at EKU focused on developing EKU's first Engineering program, which was launched in August 2023. I earned by BS from NIU, and master's and doctorate from U of Illinois. I have worked in higher ed for 45 years at NIU, Wyoming, Illinois, Maryland, Bowling Green State U, BYU, and WIU prior to moving to EKU. Most of my career has been in university academic administration as a department chair, school director, and dean.

class of 66), and I have 6 children and 17 grandchildren (2 foster granddaughters were recently added through adoption), and 7 great-grandchildren. Current hobby is cars - a 1966 Rambler American and a 1979 AMC Spirit, both V-8 four speed cars. I'm building a 1975 AMC Hornet Hatchback as a land speed race car to run at the Bonneville salt flats, the class record is 250.708 MPH, so I have my work cut out for me. I will be racing on the salt flats this summer during Speed Week in early August. Yes, I plan to drive the race car. I have started building a hot rod from a 1930 Hudson Essex rumble seat coupe, my retirement project that will take 2-3 years to complete. Still have my '01 Harley Sportster. We're enjoying the move to Michigan as the property is 3.5 acres with house and a 60" by 40' heated shop for my car projects.
We last lived in Aurora 1969-1971, and my parents moved to Billings, MT, in 1968. While we lived in Sycamore, IL, 1977-1984, we are sorry that we did not maintain connections over time with acquaintances, friends, and classmates in Aurora.
