Thomas's Story
Life
Thank you for stopping in to look this page over. You are as welcome as the sunshine. I loved attending school, and look back with fond memories.
My mother died durning my senior year at NC, that changed my plans a lot. I had planned to always live in Spokane, but when mother passed, I revised my plans.
I attended one year at Eastern Washington U., then moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho to be near my dad, and attended community college there, and received an Associate degree in Marketing and Management.
I moved to Desert Hot Springs, California in 1979, and have lived here ever since.
I went to work for Mutual of Omaha in Palm Springs in 1980, and after a couple of years opened my own insurance agency in Palm Springs. Then when my son was born, I moved my office to Desert Hot Springs so I could be ten miles closer to home. In 1996 Rose Mortuary opened in Desert Hot Springs, and the owner convinced me to work with him, and I have been working as a funeral director at Rose Mortuary in Desert Hot Springs ever since.
Married to Dolly (Mariann Spencer) since 1984. Two sons, Thomas Moen, III, he was born on August 9, 1995, and Theodore Moen, he was born on November 5, 1999. Both boys do very well in school. My wife, Dolly, taught both of our sons how to read before they started first grade. This gave them a real boost in their education. I'm proud of both of my sons.
Was Editor of the North Central News while at High School. A job that I enjoyed very much. Many of the skills I learned on the paper still help me today.
Am very active in Republican Politics here in California. Am a charter member of the Desert Congress of Republicans and served on their Board of Directors. I've been able to meet many fine people through our Republican organizations. It is wonderful to work for something I believe in.
Have served two terms (1997-1999 as President of our local Chamber of Commerce. Served the Chamber as treasurer for three terms.
Am active in the Lions Club. Am past president of the Palm Springs Lions Club, and have served as Region Chairman, serving 15 Lions Clubs from Redlands to Blythe. Have also served on the Board of Trustees of the Loma Linda Lions Eye Foundation since 1995. This foundation helps provide needed eye surgery at the world c...Expand for more
lass Loma Linda University Medical Center by some of the best doctors in the world for those who could not afford it.
My wife and I are charter members of the Seventh-day Adventist church here in Desert Hot Springs. We are both active in our church, and love to help people.
Life is fun and exciting. I have yet to fullfill my dreams, but am activly working toward them. I'm 48 years old, and feel so young with our young children in our home.
I love to hear from you folks I attended North Central with. We have a common bond, and many varried experiences. It just does my heart good to hear from any of you. We had a very kind and caring class. Thirty-one years have passed since we received our diplomas in the Spokane Coliseum. We all have experienced life. Some of us have married, some have children and some even have grandchildren. Many of us are older than our parents were when we graduated in 1977. I think we all know a lot more now than we did in 1977 when we thought we knew it all.
Feel free to contact me. Classmates will forward email. I tried to post my e-mail address here, but was informed that I was violating policy. I'll respond to your e-mail and personally send you my personal e-mail address.
I love to hear from all of the folks I attended North Central, Spokane Junior Academy, and other schools with. To all of you who have written, I thank you so very much. I love to stay in touch.
Currently I'm serving in my professional organization, Orange Belt Funeral Directors Association as President. This is a wonderful organization to be a part of. We represent all the funeral homes in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties in Southern California.
As much public speaking as I do I can always find room for improvement. Therefore, I've joined Toastmasters International and am having a wonderful time improving my skills in public speaking. This is a fine organization and is well worth joint. Even if you are not a public speaker, they teach you to think on your feet and have quick answers for sudden questions that come out of the blue.
Thanks for reading,
Tom
