Tilini's Story

Life the first 5 years of my life were spent in a van and in different hotels across the nation. my mother was a musician, my father her sound technician. her band played at hotels such as the holiday inn, sheraton, marriot, playboy club, etc. i didn't like it at the time, but i wish i could do it again. people around me often wonder how i know so many old tunes. well, this is why. i have lived in more than 6 states - reasons vary. i am greatful for my accomplishments and successes in my life. i hope to live according to my faith. i hope that i might remain worthy to serve a full-time mission for the church of jesus christ of latter-day saints. 2 of my brothers have been missionaries and one more is, yet, to depart. TBC (to be continued) visit my website for pics School i have been to 14 schools. yes, my parents were crazy and i actually liked going to different schools. i could recreate myself without the consequence of people finding out because i would just move. once, i convinced everyone that i went by the nickname, "Jaz" - my cousin's name. i spent a month at this school and left the impression that Jaz was my real name. if i could go back to this school, i wish i would've kicked the girl in my journalism class's tail. i hated every school in north carolina, except savannah. basically, i felt surrounded by narrow-minded hicks, but i learned to enjoy the company of some laid-back country folk from the savannah school area. prejudism was obviously stained in the south. after this nightmare in nc, i came to pittsburgh and was ushered in by upbeat, well-rounded kids at north allegheny intermediate and senior high. there were like about 2,500 kids. christina aguilera went to that school and so did miss teen pennsylvania. after these 2 schools, i applied at sewickley academy and attended the last 2 years of my high school career. in my entire school life i have probably beed absent a year-worth and have been tardy about the same, too. the reasons are complicated and confusing, but valid. i now attend the university of pittsburgh. i hope to go to a university away from home because the family is distracting. i also skipped the second grade when i attended myers in california. i used to chat with the "eses"...Expand for more
in my barrio - it was pretty ghetto. anyway, now, i don't remember squat about spanish. i was a pretty good student from then on, though. TBC (to be continued) Workplace since i left north carolina in 1998, i have been working as a dancer for several hula companies. i have traveled to georgia and florida and danced for the hawaii's visitors and conventions bureau. in florida, i had the opportunity to perform at a hotel that p. diddy was staying in - pretty cool, huh! i have had the opportunity to rub elbows with executives from prestigious corporations and meet other interesting entertainers and travel nearly every state along the eastern coast of the states. of course, the summer is the best time for this line of work, but during the school year i am usually in school and working near my home in pittsburgh. i worked as a gate agent and special services representative for u.s. airways right after i graduated from hgh school and enjoyed the benefits of free flying to possibly any destination the airlines accessed. it was great while it lasted. this year (2002), i was considering the legal profession and took a job as a receptionist/ legal assistant at a law firm here in pgh. i learned many things about myself. i had no official office experience, but i convinced them that i was proficient in computer and typing skills and had a proffesional attitude and i miraculously was hired. it was an uninteresting learning experience, but the pay was good. i don't think i ever want to do it again, unless, of course, the money is REALLY good. so i started back to school and i am now working as a work-study as a research asssistant at the children's hospital. my "office" is a desk with a computer with the view of a brick building across the street. i don't have to stay in one place all day, which is great! it gets boring sometimes, but i don't have to answer phones or have someone breathing down my neck and i have the pleasure of watching animal surgeries in the next room, a doorless entry. like many teenagers, i had often fantasized about pursuing a career as a "rock star", but i have grown to realize that i'd rather educate myself, be a good mother, teach my children and spend time with my family. but, que sera sera, right?
