Tim's Story

Life I have been involved with the Boy Scouts of America through Troop 45 in Dublin as the Scoutmaster for ten years. I've been fortunate to see two scouts(my son being one) to the Eagle rank so far with three more in the process of earning it now. I have had alot of fun with these guys and they have done well, back to back Klondike derby winners, and many ,many hours of service to their community. I have a couple more young men that I promised to see through their earning their Eagle and then my time will most likely be over. We will be heading out west to New Mexico this Summer on a month long trip that will include a 12 day backpacking trek and a visit to the National Scout Museum in Irving,Texas as well as many more stops on the way back. I am in the process of preparing for a showing of my artwork as a segeway into a new career. I have treated this as a side job and/or hobby for a good while and now am committed to seeing how far I can take it doing it full-time. We will see. Either way I have had a good time and have met and done work for some pretty famous folks and I am a happy man can't ask for much more than that. In the words of a fellow 79er "Be mellow" There have been some changes in my life since I first wrote those words. First I have had three more boys make Eagle scout,Iain Cobb,Josh Obenhaus, and Thomas Hash(son of fellow '79er Bobby Hash and Teresa Shupe Hash).I have started a new troop chartered to the Dublin Moose Lodge much better support than our former Chartered Organization. That is the good news and now onto the bad. I froze my feet at a Klondike Derby and it started a series of operations two on my left and one on my right with pins, screws, and some bone removal before fusing them.Next came an arthoscopic surgery on my right shoulder there was too much damage to get it all arthoscopically so they opened me up and did some major repair to my rotator cuff(1hole,3rips,2big tears, and a bunch of flaps that had to be dealt with). then they did the same to my left. The screw that is in my left foot started backing out and the bones it is in started to split so I had another operation with new pins a...Expand for more
nd the screwtaken out and put back in in another direction. Then I had to wear a bone growth stimulator for awhile until it made enough bone to stabilize it.These six operations coupled with the five knee operations(one was a repair to my patella tendon which explode into two peices I have 4or5permanent staples that hold the part attached to the bottom section to the section that attaches to the knee cap. That section is held to my kneecap(after the kneecap was pulled down out of my thigh very freeky looking when you are on the ground looking at it)with two plates of silver front and back of kneecap held in place with 5 nuts and bolts. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes shortly after my mom died and was also diagnosed with high blood pressure. It doesn't allow me to heal as fast as I once did.Latest round of doctors confirmed that I also have colitis and Barrets in my esophocus. Barrets is the precursor to throat cancer. These last two items brought about a bigger lifestyle change than even the diabetes,NO spices ,salt, pepper,no fried foods,no white bread,etc.... BUT, I am still here and I am grateful for that. It(foot surgery)did allow me to do something I had always wanted to be able to do:I taught myself to play the guitar. It brings me not only a feeling of accomplishment and relaxes me which is the best part.I pretty much stay at home and take pills for the pain. I can't stay on my feet for more than twenty minutes before they swell up. I am heading down hill alot faster than I would have ever imagined, but I haven't gone anywhere yet. I have a lot to be grateful for(my wife,my son,friends,et...) and have tried to help those around me.As I told Mary not to worry I had too many things left to do to go anywhere any time soon.I am taking commisions for art and if you are in need or want of portraits let me know. twalismt45 For those of you who have visited from Dublin High looking for info on my older siblings Carl,Curtis,Beverly here is what i can tell you;Carl died in an auto accident in 1974 (i miss him everyday)beverly married and has two sons, and Curtis on his second marriage and has two sons from his first.
