Tom's Story
Life
Went into the U.S. Army in 1968, spent 10 months in Nam. Honorable discharge in 1970. Graduated college, went to work for the United Auto Workers and Ford Motor Company. Picked up a MA, stayed with UAW for 22 years. Came to the D.C. area in 1994. Started my own government relations consulting firm in January 2002. Prior to that I spent eight years in Washington, D.C. holding positions in the Executive Branch of the government.
In the 1996, 2000 and 2004 presidential campaigns, I worked for Clinton, Gore and Kerry as their Director of Veterans Outreach. Still very much involved in advocating for my fellow veterans, especially those from IAVA.
In between campaigns I was at the Department of Labor where I was a Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Veterans Employment and Training Service.
I had been the senior director of state government affairs for Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) since October 2005. Retired from HIMSS on July 1, 2014. If you want to know more about what I have been doing, you can find me on FB, Twitter (Namvet) and Linked In.
I have been married to Michaelann since 1978 and we have a son Tommy who graduated from James Madison University. We now live in Loudon, TN. I am proud to say we are a family of "yellow do...Expand for more
g" Democrats.
WE LOVE EASTERN Tennessee and enjoy being retired in our new smaller home.
Life is good! Still riding and loving it!. Had a few beers with Steve Gurllides the past couple of trips to Vegas and have had lunch with Rianne Schnider when she visited her son and daughter-in-law in Virginia. Went to dinner with Sue Hostaller when I was in Florida and shared a few laughs about high school days.
Still working on my bucket list, marked off seeing Willie Nelson and Stevie Nicks in concerts last year. Still have to get to Fantasy Feast in Key West one of these years. Rode the Dragon's Tail on the HD 3 years ago and also saw Sir Paul in concert.
For 20 years I washed the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in D.C. with a group of fellow Nam vets the first Saturday of the month and make sure to touch Danny Gladding on Panel 57W, line 22 and Steve Freise, Panel 44W, line 24.
This past Veterans Day purchased a 2017 HD Ultra-Classic Trke. Still love riding even with bad hips, so it has come to pass the only way I could continue to ride was getting the Trike. Great decision and really enjoy getting around the mountains here in eastern Tennessee on it.
Hope life is going well for all of my fellow classmates from St William the Abbot and Seaford high school.
