Timothy's Story

Hello kids! Who’s looking back on old classmates? After growing up in Livermore, I attended UC Santa Cruz for a bit, got bored, moved to SF to study dance, wound up in politics, communications, PR an now split my time between Sonoma County and SF doing a variety of nonprofit volunteering. Oh, yes, once out of Livermore, I quickly came out and would up living my authentic best life, becoming a bit of an activist in LGBTQ & HIV/AIDS work. Now, I’m a certified California Naturalist and trying to be the best authentic version of myself…and funny! I’m so funny! Was I funny back then?? Splitting time living in Monterey area; married to an amazing man. (Yes, gay…did anyone from schools past go. “Duh”?) Timothy's schools include Granada High School, Junction Avenue Middle School, Rincon Elementary School. Timothy later attended University of California, Santa Cruz; San Francisco State University (Urban Studies). Timothy worked at River Myst Haven, Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods, Niehaus Ryan Wong (NRW), KQED, Metreon, in SF politics (just look at my LinkedIn profile). I’m a Certified California Naturalist. Music Timothy likes includes Bette Midler, Annie Lennox, Lady Gaga, Cher, (see above “gay” reference) Katy Perry, David Bowie, U2, Club/dance music—I don’t really buy music much anymore, preferring to just listen to streaming services classified around a genre. Books Timothy likes include: I’m really more drawn to nonfiction books and have an entire shelf of field guides for California (for hobby references); I love the annual Best American essays, short stories, science & nature writing, etc…I read a number of newspapers everyday, but am tiring of the grind of that. Five of my favorite movies (in no particular order): Magnolia, Wings of Desire, Across the Universe, Westside Story, Boogie Nights Some favorite quotes: “My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.” ...Expand for more
~Maya Angelou “If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.” ~Henry David Thoreau “Even when a need exists and we are well qualified to meet it, we are not necessarily called to respond to it.... Similarly, simply because a task or undertaking is good to do does not mean that we are called to do it or that we should continue doing it. To be doing what is good can be the greatest obstacle to doing something even better.” ~Source: Listening Hearts “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” ~Margaret Mead "...for it is in giving that we receive..." ~ St. Francis "As long as you are kind and there is love in your heart, a thousand hands will naturally come to your aid. As long as you are kind and there is love in your heart, you will reach out with a thousand hands to help others." ~ Guan Yin "May your mouth only be as open as your mind." ~Me". “Upon the discovery of our precariousness and insecure contingency, we seek to ground ourselves, to finish and fill ourselves, by running away from the fragility of our personhood.... If we consume, collect, or produce enough, we seem to think we could eliminate the risks of being human, of trust, of intimacy. But we find instead the emptiness of a closed, monadic world that turns upon itself in violence. Finally, we seek escape, refusing to commit ourselves, in the face of our own frightening unfinishedness. At times, slavery seems less terrible, and certainly more safe, than freedom.” John Francis Kavanaugh “One has to live in the present. Whatever is past is gone beyond recall; whatever is future remains beyond one’s reach, until it becomes present. Remembering the past and giving thought to the future are important, but only to the extent that they help one deal with the present.” ~S.N. Goenka".
