Timothy's Story
Life
Well, like most of you, I've moved around a bit since high school. After high school, I attended one semester of college at Middlesex Community College in New Jersey. I quickly realized my life had no direction, so I thought the Air Force would give some direction. I joined the Air Force in February of 1988, and after basic training in San Antonio Texas and technical school in Biloxi Mississippi, I was station at RAF Fairford England. I spent two fun filled years in England, a beautiful place. I enjoyed the beautiful country side and friendly people of England so much I married one. Not long after getting married, I was transfered to Tyndall AFB, Panama City Florida, another beautiful place. During my seven years at Tyndall, both my children were born, one boy (TJ) and one girl (Chrissy). From Florida, we moved overseas to Lajes Field, Azores Portugal, again, another beautiful place. This island is full of post card perfect views, and clear blue water. After my first year there, I got divorced and started my new life as a single parent. I quickly realized the enormous responsibility involved in being a single parent, and decided that I would not be able to serve the Air Force and my children at the same time. I transfered from active duty Air Force to the Texas Air Nation Guard in August of 1999 and moved back to Texas. I started back to college full time at Texas A&M University in College Station Texas. I was called back to active duty in November of 2001, three weeks before graduation, but was ...Expand for more
still able to graduate on time. I spent four months at Ahmed Al Jaber Air Base Kuwait supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. After my time in the desert, I returned to Texas where I continued to support the war effort from my home base in La Porte Texas for another two years. During this time, I received my commission, and started my climb up the officer ranks as a Second Lieutenant. When I was finally released from active duty in January 2004, I started my first civilian job with NASA at the Johnson Space Center. I worked at NASA for a year before accepting a job with a defense contractor in Reno Nevada. I transfered from the 272d Engineering and Installation Squadron in Texas to the 162d Combat Communications Group in California when I moved to Nevada. I'm still currently living and working in Reno Nevada, and drilling with the California Air National Guard in Sacramento California. I really enjoy this area very much, the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range and Northern California have some of the most breath taking views I've ever seen. In 2006, I bought a motorcycle which has been a lot fun. There is very little rain here during the summers which gives me a lot of chances to explore the area. My children now 16 and 17, don't need me around 24/7 like they did when they were little which gives me time to ride on weekends. My son, TJ, is planning on going into the Air Force when he graduates in the spring. Chrissy is taking cosmetology in hight school and is planning on being a beautician when she graduates.
