In 1981 my family moved from Gardena, California to St. Louis Missouri, the birthplace of my parents.
With the money from the sale of their California home, they bought a hardware store, a few apartments and a 14 room mansion to rehab.
As a teen, I grew up in the hardware business (Hollins True Value Hardware). I learned about toilets, kitchen sinks, roofs, nails and nuts and bolts. I taught a lot of real estate investors and landlords how to repair their property. Eventually I decided I wanted to get into real estate. After High Shool I attended Jr. College part time and acquired my real estate license. My main goal was to buy and sell properties but I never had enough cash to play with. I eventually opened up a used furniture store and flea market and then I had cash like crazy. I then quit my full time job, purchased a 4plex, got married, started traveling and went back to college.
After getting my BS degree, I sold my store and I went to work for a real estate firm as an apartment specialist. For over the last 12 years I've been busy brokering apartment deals. I also discovered a passion for teaching and for computers. At work, I mentored new agents in the business and I started developing real estate websites.
Due to the recent real estate crash, I left the office in January 09 and landed a job in Coroprate America. I now assist Stock Brokers, financial planners, and other investment counselors with buying and selling mutual funds.
As of today, May 24, 2009, I have been married for 17 years. I have three lovely children (Boy,girl, boy). In March of this year I finally bought a dog. Although the kids promised look after it ...Expand for more
and clean up after it; they have yet to clean up any crap.
How do I blow off steam? My favorite way to relax is to exercise. I like the way exercise makes me feel. I don't use weight machines but rather dumbells and bodyweight exercises ie push-up, sit-up, squats.) Since my metabolism has slowed down, I'm trying to burn off a few inches. I also like to relax by reading one of the many books from my library. I like non-fiction. Biographies and Success Books are my favorite. I like books that will motivate me and prompt me into action. After reading Dave DelDottos book, How to Make Nothing But Money, I opened my furniture store. Lastly, I like to blow off steam by spanking my kids. After 4 or 5 swings of the paddle, I can just feel the tension drain from my body. Spanking the kids can be an awesome stress reliever. You should try it for yourself. If you decide to go this route, I want you to remember one thing. Their screams are "only" temporary. After about 15 minutes, everyone will feel soooooo much better, especially you.
My obsessions are simple. I'm a garage sale, estate sale, yard sale, auction fanatic. Next, I buy domain names like crazy. It's like shooting fish in a barrel. I'll register a name for $10 and someone will offer me $1500. Earlier this year, someone offerred me $750 for a name and we settled on $4000. (I love the negotation skills I developed while selling apartments.) I also have an obsession with used books. Since they are sooooo cheap, I buy them by the truck load. I have so many books I'll never read them all. I guess I keep them around because they make me look smart. Truthfully, I get ideas from them and I try to apply them. I happen to teach a few aerobic/step/body sculpting classes and I get lots of ideas from my library. As far as TV is concerned, I don't watch it much. I can't wait for the TV signals to change so that my tv won't work anymore. That way, the kids can concentrate on school work and be more productive rather than vegging out for hours.
