Tom's Story

Life Quick bio; grew up in Loudonville playing baseball (Latham Little league and Babe Ruth) basketball and soccer in grade school and at Shaker Jr. High, played football at Shaker, then my family moved to Lincoln, NE after the first semester of my soph. year at Shaker, I finished HS at Lincoln Southeast (barely) playing club soccer, varsity football and skiing as much as possible, went to the Olympics at Lake Placid (to work, not compete), moved to Colorado to ski, moved back to Lincoln, went to NU for a year, worked in retail, on farms, construction, was into punk/alternative music bigtime (still have friends in the business), almost got married, moved back to Colorado - worked for Polo in Vail and hotels in Beaver Creek, raced mt. bikes and skied a ton, went back to school at Colorado Mt. College and got my AA, transfered to Ft. Lewis College in Durango and got my BA in anthropology, started my caraeer as an archaeologist, went back to retail in Vail for the benefits, almost got married, missed archaeology and started working as an archaeologist for the Forest Service on the North Kaibab N.F. in AZ, got a position with Zion National Park. I continued at G...Expand for more
rand Canyon NP, White River NF, Apache-Sitgreaves NF and now South Lake Tahoe as Asst. Forest Archaeologist. I have recently returned to Colorado haven been selected for my dream job as the White River National Forest Heritage Program Manager and will probably end my career here. We have evidence of Native American occupation going back to the end of the Ice Age and have historic sites related to the expansion to the West including mining, railroads, CCC and military sites. My younger brother Dirck (Loudonville Elementary and also LSE HS) lives with his family in Chicago, my older brother Grant (Shaker) and mom just passed away this year while residing in the Albany area, it's been a tough year. Besides working as an archaeologist, I also help out with wildland firefighting in our forest and in the region, working as an archaeologist trying to prevent damage to cultural resources.. I still love skiing, music and sports and have stayed in touch with many friends from Shaker and Southeast. I hope everyone is well, send me an e-mail if you are going to visit Colorado, or the Grand Canyon or Lake Tahoe areas, I can give you the insider info on both. -Tom

18th hole with a creek to cross, was only one over at this point, sure enough, I put it in the creek. Overall very nice course, much of it would be busy with picnickers on weekends and summer days, so playing early in the d
Hole #17 tee - fun elevated tee, wing that disc!
Hole #16 tee (yeah I skipped all the upper holes that day, drove around and viewed them after finishing and realized I could play all but 6 and 7 without worrying about poison ivy)
Alternate hole #6a for playing course as a 9 hole course (or avoiding poison ivy like me)
Hole #6 tee- poison ivy everywhere and up hill, I skipped this one.
Another view of Hole #4 tee (check the size of the tee pads about 1/2 the size of what I'm used to, really messed up my steps)
Hole #5 tee - blind shot to tee
