Tom's Story
Life
After High School, attended Columbia Christian College, where I played baseball, and basically had a great time (wished I would have studied a little). Met my wife, Lynne Miller there and we married in 1974 (coming up on 29 years). I worked as a restaurant manager for a year before joining the Army and moving to Ft. Ord. After getting out of the Army, I moved to Stockton where I have been with the Stockton Police Department since 1978. I am currently a Lieutenant in charge of the Detective Division. I will be eligible to retire (imagine that - I'm getting old) in less than four years.
Lynne and I have two boys. Ryan is 26, married and living in San Diego where he is a 6th grade teacher for a private christian school. They are expecting their first child (we are going to be Grandparents - unbelievable) in May. Derek is 21 and currently a Sophomore at Cascade College (formerly Columbia Christian College). He wants to eventually become an animal photographer. Basically, Lynne and I are empty nesters and really enjoying our time together. We both spend a lot of time working with our church. I have been the volunteer youth minister here for almost 17 years now, so I really enjoy working with teens in my off duty...Expand for more
time. Lynne spends time in the nursery and helps me with the youth group. She can't wait to get her hands on our first grand child.
College
Had a great time attending Columbia Christian College (1970-72) and (73 -74). Took three years to get a two year degree. Started off as an Architect major, ended up with an AA degree in history. Wished I would have studied a little harder. Played a lot of intercollegiate baseball and had a great time. But, did meet my wife (Lynne Miller) here and we married in 1974.
Finally got my BA degree in management from St. Mary's college (Moraga, California) in 1992
I recently graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia (2002).
Workplace
I've worked for the Stockton Police Department since 1978 and currently hold the position of Lieutenant in charge of the Detective Division (Robbery/Homicide, child Abuse/Sexual Assault, Burglary, white collar crimes, & auto Theft. In the past I have worked gangs (10 years), robbery/homicde detective, and Internal Affairs. Not quite four years to retirement. As of this writing in 2005, I retired in January as Deputy Police Chief, with 27 years of service to the Police Dept. I am working at Cascade College in Portland Oregon.
