Tom's Story
I have had a wonderful life to date - no complaints and look forward to the years ahead. Success to me is the continued pursuit of noble ideals. Along the way, this worked well for me in business as well.
I have met some incredible people along the way that have all helped to shape who I am and the values I hold close.
After graduation in 1977 - I left Colorado to become a hardrock miner in the deep silver mines of north Idaho. My first day underground was spent breaking rocks 8,100 feet beneath the surface of the earth - I loved it.
I got married during this time and started our family.
As the mines shut down, I went to the University of Idaho and earned a B.S. degree in Mine Engineering. This took me to many great places in Colorado, Utah, and Idaho. Eventually - I took my family overseas to the island of New Guinea (for 13 years) and worked as a mining manager for a very large gold mine - this was a great time. I earned my MBA from Regis University in my free time (not likely to do that stunt again!). During this time, my family and I had either worked on, or visited six continents and 30+ countries. I became fluent in Malay and Indonesian languages.
As the kids got too old for school on the island - we returned and we...Expand for more
nt to work in the gold mines of Nevada - by then a Manager of Engineering and Geology. Eventually - I transferred to Alaska as the Vice President and General Manager of Alaskan gold mining operations for my company.
On the person front - I have three great kids and a wife (Eileen). The oldest is a teacher in Reno, the second is studying helicopter flight operations to be a pilot, having first served in the Army Infantry and spending time in Iraq. The youngest (20) is a safety and training development specialist for hard industry.
We have a wonderful and cute dog - Claire, who is 100% Beagle (and trouble).
I love to mountain climb and have climbed 5 of the 7 great summits of the world and include Kilimanjaro (Tanzania), Aconcagua (Argentina), Elbrus (Russia), Puncak Jaya (Indonesia), and McKinley (United States). Next objective is Visnus on Antarctica - I just need some more dough - like $30,000 (any sponsors out there?)
When not battling snow and cold in Alaska - we enjoy cruiser motorcycles and riding ATVs. Salmon and Halibut fishing is always a great way to kill time in Juneau.
I have few regrets in life, all of which have to do with losing touch with some great friends - maybe some day I will be able to reconnect with them.
