Tom's Story
Life
For the last 5 years I've been working in public relations for the University of North Carolina Health Care System. Immediately before that I worked as a news writer at CNN.com in Atlanta, and I started my career as a daily newspaper reporter for the Montgomery Advertiser in Alabama. (Of course, this followed my brief and ill-fated career as a professional musician!)
Outside of work, my life is consumed mostly by participation in endurance sports, triathlon in particular. I started bike racing in 2001 and broke my collarbone in a crash in 2003, which then started me on the path towards triathlon. ...Expand for more
In 2004 and 2005 I competed in several triathlons, including two half Ironman distance events. In 2004 I completed my first (and so far, only) marathon. So far in 2006 I have competed in two sprint distance triathlons and plan to do a few more before ending my season with an international distance race.
Two highlights of my life in recent years were my trip to France in the summer of 2004 for the Tour de France, and my participation in the Calistoga to Santa Cruz running relay race in October 2005.
I've never been married and I don't have any children. However, I do have a black cat named "Cletus" ...
