Tom's Story
(2024) Hunkering down in CT as the lunatic left rambles through the state (and the country). 2022 the worst year I’ve seen in my lifetime. Things got worse 2023 but started to turn the corner with the Penn/Harvard/MIT presidents’ disaster. More green shoots are popping up – hope they make it. Now we have the visible signs of invasion of insurgents at top universities.
In the new year I’m turning to new topics (and some old). Another candle on the cake January 4 – this time with a 0 on the end.
In retirement, I’m watching tons of Youtube. Can’t imagine life without it! Absolutely no cable TV or news programs!
Lots of dinosaur burning car videos including Hoovies Garage (gone now back after divorce), Samcrac, Rainman Ray’s Repairs and I Do Cars.
Adventures with Purpose. Divers looking for missing people. And they find them! These guys are awesome. Send them $. I did.
Electronics repair is at the top of my list. Shango066 fixing 50-70 yr old TVs and transistor radios with great deadpan social commentary.
Joe’s Classic Video Games – Repairing pinball machines and arcade games with very funny banter. (C’mon People) And his brother Donnie’s site. Pure South Carolina redneck working stiffs (just like my neighbors in Fayetteville, NC).
Northridge Fix and Louis Rossmann – laptop repair and repartee.
And of course Cat/kitten videos. Especially Kitten Academy and Kittysaurus. KatzClub. They keep making them I’ll keep watching them! Now hooked on Red Birb! Can’t stop watching Girl with dogs (both 1 and 2). She is a groomer who deals with problematic cats and dogs – for free – Youtube pays her enough!
Yoyomi – lollipop head Korean cutie who sings Trot and shows off her dancing moves. Just found Rakuten cheerleaders in Taiwan. Wow.
MAY – I am officially old songs.
Those Were the Days – Mary Hopkins
When I Was 17 – Frank Sinatra
Yesterday When I Was Young - Glen Campbell
We’ll Meet Again – Vera Lynn
Fate – Lee Sun He
Love is All - Yanni

Ultramega dust removal. Those dust bunnies are always waiting. – Just got a Roomba, nick name Dustboy, who deals with the dust bunnies and crumbs (which are everywhere around me). Great investment.
Toying with taking Total Immersion Swimming workshop. I can almost swim but would like to ‘really’ swim. I did a weekend workshop about 20 years ago. Then they closed the local pool so I had nowhere to go. But just before COVID they opened a new pool about 5 mins from my house – yeah. Now the pool HVAC has crapped out and the deck is falling apart. UGH
RANT – Swedish Death Cleaning!
No matter how much stuff goes out (trash, dump, recycle, donate) there seems to be an endless pile of crap all over the place.
As I clean one horizontal surface, some of the stuff appears on a different horizontal surface. Tons of stuff has been collected over the years. A friend of mine has a bundle of fat wood that he has moved 5 times to Europe and back. He never burns it – can’t bring himself to do it. He just has it.
Dumped all old laptops and tablets (but not phones yet. Got a pile of old PC hard drives still (about 30lbs.
A bookshelf with numerous books, some favorites from college, some references, many of which I have not even dusted in years. Why are they there? Just in case I might need to look up some Norse mythology figure, some ancient Greek metamorphosis myth, some odd Shakespeare quote. Not to mention the ‘teach yourself to play piano in a week’ books. I will cull this herd this month (at least 10 books gotta go). UPDATE – 10 books went!
Someday I’ll get up the gumption to just wipe the slate clean and dump ALL of this stuff.
To quote Aragorn, ‘but it is not THIS day’.
