Tom's Story
Its been a long time since graduation in 1962. San Pedro holds many fond memories for me, but I could never go back. I like to remember it as it was, with the friends with whom I spent time, and the places that could only exist in that wonderful community.
I left Pedro in 1965 after taking 3 years to do two years of work at Harbor College. I went on the road to find myself. I ended up in Iowa working as a draftsman. Then Uncle Sam came calling and I spent the last part of 1966, all of 1967, and part of 1968 in Southeast Asia with the Navy.
Being an enlisted person in the military convinced me that I wanted more control over my life and decisions, so I enrolled at the University of Iowa and earned a BS in Phys. Ed and a BA in Geography. During that time in Iowa, I met and married the love of my life, Noel. We've been married 46+ years; no kids, but a very full life of fantastic relationships and experiences.
We moved to Tempe, AZ in 1972. I worked at an institution for severely and profoundly impacted kids and adults. That experience sent me back to school at Arizona State for an MA...Expand for more
in Special Education (1975).
In 1975, we moved to Colorado where we've spent 42 years in Ft. Collins and Denver, working in education. My fields included Special Ed. teacher, HS Counselor, Assistant HS Principal, Middle School Principal,Director of Career and Technical Education, and university professor. In 1984 I completed the requirements for a Ph.D. In School Administration and Organizational Development at Colorado State University.
We both retired in 2004 and now spend winters in Bucerias, Nayarit, Mexico. Our USA home is in Westminster, Colorado. I fill my time with lots of golf, sailing, guitar, singing, and volunteer work through the Rotary Club.
Now in my 70's, I find life to be more rich and rewarding than it has ever been. My hope is to continue with good health, to cherish my life partner, and to fully embrace the fascinating experiences that still await me.
My purpose in affiliating with Classmates.com was to connect with old friends and acquaintances and to learn about the pathways you have followed and where they have led you. I hope to hear from you.
Cheers,
Tom
