Toni's Story
Life
I grew up in Lake Hiawatha, NJ, graduating from Parsippany High School. Then off to IUP for college. Taught in VA and PA. Was married for 10 years as I had three children (Wendy, Holly and Shawn).... then divorced and was re-married in August 2001 to a wonderful man from England. Now I have four stepchildren (grown up) and eleven stepgrandchildren...However we live in PA with just my three children. My husband gave up his carpenter business and now works for Lowe's. Loving our new home we bought in September of 2002, especially the pool in the summer. My husband, Les, adopted my three children as they became Shaws on March 20, 2007.
College
I graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in May 1989 with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economic Education and a minor in Psychology and Food Service Management. Then I graduated with a double Master's Degree from Elmira College in August 1999 with a Masters...Expand for more
in General Education and Adult Education. ( I had two children in between and was pregnant with the third when I finished my Master's Degree so it took longer than I thought to get it... but I did). I just finished a Training of Trainers Course for another Certification in April 2006... another addition to the list of schooling. I currently have a double Master's Degrees + 60 (A Doctorate Equivalent).
Workplace
I have been working as a Family and Consumer Science Teacher since graduation in 1989. I worked as a one year substitute at Warren County High School (Front Royal, VA), Salisbury High School (Allentown, PA), and Fleetwood Area Middle School (Fleetwood, PA). Then started a permanant position at Athens Area School District (Athens, PA). I taught all grades from 6th to 12th. I will teach 6th, 7th and 8th, starting with the 2012-2013 year. I am also a Consultant for The Pampered Chef since the summer of 2000.
