Tony's Story
Life
I graduate from college in 1988 and moved to Houston, Texas. After dating for a couple of years, I married a native Texan. Unfortunately, after 7 years of marriage, we were divorced.
The divorce was finally during one on my longer work assignments in West Virginia ( at one point I had house in Houston and apartment in West virginia and flew back and forth about every couple weeks).
After dating for a while, I meet Cindy and we went out for about 2 years when I was asked to got to Malaysia for a start-up. Since I was getting ready to buy a ring anyway, I asked her to marry me and asked her to go to Malaysia with me (in less than 30 days). Cindy said "Yes" to both. Cindy impressed me with her wedding planning. We were married a week before we flew out for Malaysia.
While in Malaysia, we traveled to Singapore, Bangkok, and Austrailia. We also traveled pretty widely within Malaysia itself (including Kuala Lumpar and Kuantan).
Garrett was born about 3 weeks after I returned stateside (Oct. 2001). Cindy had returned a couple of months earlier.
School
In high school, I was shy and quiet. My classes were heavy with math and science. I did enjoy shop class as well. I still have the walnut Rolltop Desk I made.
At Graduation, I was the Salutitorian (just missing straight A's w...Expand for more
ith one B) for our class and gave a little speech at graduation with a little slam of Mr. Dexter.
Workplace
I started working for Bechtel Engineering right out of college. I worked on a variety of projects with a variety of roles ( systems engineer, junior project engineer, process engineer). Some of the more interesting assignments included: in plant process support for an ethylene unit, field contact for control upgrade in Institute, WV facility, and a crude vacuum column upgrade in Cheveron's Salt Lake City Refinery (interesting more for the 4 month stay in the Embassy Suites). During my 13 years with Bechtel, I was sub contracted out to Union Carbide Corporation over 10 years. Needless to say, I was highly regarded with in Union Carbide and joined them in 1999. Shortly afterwords, the merger with Dow Chemical was announced. In 2000 I was asked to help start-up a 1.4 billion dollar facility on the west coast of Malaysia. During my assignment there, the merger was finalized and I became a Dow employee. Upon returning to the United States at the end of 2001, I returned to process engineering work.
I am currently working on a 2.4 billion dollar chemical complex that will be built in Kuwait in 2007.
I am also registered Professional Engineer of Chemical Engineering in the State of West Virginia.
