Tony's Story

Life Most of you (high school particularly) will remember me from my involvement in the arts at WCHS. My post-high school trajectory took shape as a result of my performance as Nathan Detroit in "Guys and Dolls." The theater professor from Martin College was in attendance on closing night and offered me a drama scholarship on the spot. That led to an audition for a music scholarship and art scholarship (I received both) as well as several academic scholarships. I spent my first two years there, graduating with my Associates degree in 1984, garnering awards in drama, art, and religion. I received a hefty scholarship in religious studies from Berry College in Rome, GA and received my B.A. in 1986, as well as several awards in religion from Berry and was named to Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities in 1986. I got married in 1990 and have 3 children. After college, I worked in sales and marketing in the Christian Music Industry for 16 years. Afterwards, I served as a youth & music minister in Ohio for 3 years from 2004 to 2007, as a pastor from 2007-2008, and once again as a youth/music minister from 2009-2011. In 2012, I began work on a Masters Degree in Christian Studies at Bryan College in Dayton and attained my degree in 2013, graduating with a 4.0 GPA. Three years ago, I began to experience some major health issues and have been unable to work. From 2014-2015, while going through multiple medical tests and,...Expand for more
eventually, treatment for peripheral neuropathy and severe fibromyalgia, I worked toward expanding my Masters thesis into a full book. That work was completed at the end of 2015 and self-published through Amazon in early 2016 (the title being "Zero Identity: The Ontological Crisis of the American Church). I have begun work on a second book, but again because of health issues, the work is slow-going. Over the years, I have done free-lance art for Homeland Records and had an entire limited edition print series of one of my pieces picked up and distributed by a gift company based out of Oklahoma City. I have had some success selling limited edition prints of other works of mine independently. In addition, I also had a parody lyric of mine picked up and recorded by Word Records artist Mark Lowery. Over the years, I have continued to compose and arrange music, though my goal to gain publishing for some of these original compositions has not yet been realized. I had hoped that the parody lyric would open some doors, but that never materialized. Therefore, I continue to press forward, compose, submit, and learn from whatever feedback I receive. A number of my dreams from those high school years have been realized. Others I am still working toward. Regardless of any unmet goals and unfulfilled dreams, I have lived a blessed life and am thankful to God for my wife and children - and for the success He has graciously allowed me to experience.
