Traci's Story

Life I moved to Alaska in 1992 and have been living here ever since. I have four wonderful children! My oldest is 19 and my only girl. She has grown up to be a beautiful bright young woman that I am very proud of. She has graduated High School and currently works 2 jobs while she decides what college she wants to attend and where. Next in line is my 15 year old son. He looks and acts much older then he is! He lives and breathes fishing and hunting and will probably live his life in Alaska. My third son who is now 8 is my miracle child. He was born with his intestines and colin in his chest cavity compressing his lungs and heart. After surgery at 5 days old and one month on life support you would never know he barely survived other then being a bit small yet for his age. My youngest is 7 and most definately the baby of the family. He is very loving yet demanding. He is very bright and will probably run his own company some day! (At least he has the attitude for it!) My 2 youngest are very much involved in sports and that keeps me going most of the year. When we are between sports we spend alot of time fishing and camping, something that is plentiful in Alaska. All 3 have my boys have been bringing in their own fish since the age of 4. My daughter is very much a girly girl so I have plenty of opportunity to enjoy the fun girl stuff amongst all the male testostrone!! (Girls are soooo much easier!!!) Lucky for me I am a big believer in family time and really enjoy spending time with my kids. I am just as comfortable shopping as I am fishing or cheering at a sports event! When feeling the need to escape or have some quiet time after the kids are in bed I can usually be found on the...Expand for more
computer or watching one of those horrible reality shows!! I live in the beautiful town of Juneau and can not imagine finding the beauty of it or the safe small town atmosphere anywhere else. It is a great place to raise children with a very low crime/drug rate and friendly town. We are surrounded by water on 3 sides and mountains on the other so the only way in or out is by boat or plane. The only regret I have is that traveling in and out of Alaska with 4 children can be very difficult due to expense and weather so we don't get south enough to see family and friends. I have a great job at the University that enables me to work full time yet still be home when the kids get home. I enjoy meeting students from all over the world and watch them discover our town with new eyes. My title is Fiscal Technician which is really just a fancy name for a job description with a little bit of everthing involved!! I set up student meal plans and make sure they are eating, as well as doing food service billing and inventory. I help out with catering events thru the University and oversee student workers in their areas of work. I finally retired the Mini Van and graduated to a Ford F150 Lowride Stepside pickup truck that seats 6!! I may still chauffer a ton of kids around... but we are "cool" now when we go somewhere!! (Can't tell the kids convinced me on this one!!) I fullfilled my promise to my daughter (a year late) that when she turned 18 and got a tattoo that I would get one too! (Midlife crisis???!!!!) I can't imagine doing or being anywhere else right now and am enjoying life such as it is. I would love to hear from old classmates... sometimes I feel a bit removed up in this state!!
