Tracy's Story
Life
For two years I have been living, with my husband and 2 dogs, in New England. My husband's work brought us here. Even though my husband works in Massachusetts, we chose to live in a rural area of New Hampshire. Population around 3,000.
There are several acres of forest behind our house. That means that many wild creatures are our neighbors.
The other morning I found a bat sleeping on our living room curtains! Image that! A city girl finding a bat in her home:) I screamed loudly, and the bat continued to sleep! Luckily, my husband hadn't yet left for work. He 'escorted' our visitor to the backyard. I am sure we will see it flying around some evening. Fine. It is not welcome in our home, though.
I enjoy all of the other creatures: frogs, butterflies, fireflies, crickets, deer, etc.... Okay. The skunks aren't too enjoyable:) Cute but stinky.
Living super close to many other states is fun. We are about 30 minutes from Maine and Massachusetts. Rhode Island is a few hours from us, and New York is about a 4 hour drive. French Canada is also close: ...Expand for more
around 5 hours. We enjoy taking weekend drives and exploring the areas.
One Saturday, I asked my husband where he would like to get a cup of coffee. He suggested Manhattan. Off we went to NY for a cup of coffee! Times Square Starbucks for a Mocha:) On our way back home, we ended up at Popeye's in the Bronx. Life is always an adventure for us.
New England is extremely different than the NorthWest. The seasons here are great; I love the snow, and look forward to it. However, I miss Puget Sound, Edmonds Beach, Pike Place, The Ave, Broadway, Alki, and my friends/family. We will have to visit often.
At the same time, I enjoy our life here. It is calm, relaxed, quiet (except on the highway). The sky is nearly always clear enough to see the Stars. There is history to explore. And wild creatures to meet:) Our dogs love their new home--more space to run and more creatures to chase.
I had always been interested in New England and writers from New England. Now, I live less than 20 minutes from the Robert Frost Farm:)
So, I would say dreams can be realized.
