Tunney's Story

Sunday, 3 August 2008 To All Classmates Who Made the 30th Reunion and Those Who Wished They Could Have: "Super Seniors Wild and Great, We're the Cats of '78 !!!!!" It was so ironic that this reunion was at the Patrick Henry Hays SENIOR Center. Yea, we're about to really be seniors all right, but you can't join the Hays Center until you're 50. So those of you still living in NLR, you might have 2 more years before you can join officially. I've just driven home to Dallas from NLR. I had several hours to think about who and what I wanted to write about, but this email will be the first of many to go out in the next week or so. I've been married to my wife, Leslie, for now 20 + years, and I've learned at least one of many things well from her. She says that it's always important to recognize the things that you appreciate and to be thankful for, and to those who enabled those important things to be available. I'm so very thankful for Lonnie, Susie, Andrea, Becki, Karen, Kathy, Mike, Alan, Rickey, Kelly, Kelli, and anyone else that I may have forgotten. I'm appreciative that a team of classmates planned, organized, and executed this reunion (and all those that preceded it), and allowed me the opportunity to simply pay, attend, and visit with everyone from start to finish. I may have jokingly gotten a picture of Karen sweeping and Lonnie mopping up at the end, but that's just evidence of the hard work that it took to pull this wonderful event off for us. Throughout the whole event and the days leading up to it, I thought about an endless list of things, and I wasn't sure ...Expand for more
what to expect when we all got together. I'm sure of one thing - I love coming to these reunions. I haven't missed one, and I hope that nothing ever comes up to make me miss one. I'm so thankful for all my classmates. I'm grateful for those that came to me to talk. I'm grateful that I was allowed to approach and initiate a hug, a handshake, or conversation. I'm grateful that no one cared that sometimes a double take between face and name tag was required. I'm even more grateful for those that forgave me for not remembering them, but we asked questions, talked, and visited nonetheless. What a GREAT CLASS we are!!!! Many conversations with people allow for this summary to be written. We all seem to be comfortable with ourselves and the places that our lives have us at for now. We work at the many diverse occupations and professions that all the world works at to support its local communities. We have families that we raise and care for. We have children that we admit to everyone that will listen, "My kids are really good kids." I didn't hear a single parent over the weekend voice any regrets about their children. This means we've grown up to be good/great parents in our own right. Thank your own parents for setting the example the next time you talk to them. They'll love you back for it. This is what I'm thankful for from coming to this reunion. Can't wait until the next one. Count me in already and to help with any computer or media work next time. "We're Still Super Seniors, Still Wild, and Still Great Cats - - Even Though It's 2008!!!!, Love ya all, Tunney
