Twala's Story
Who better than a soft spoken preacher's kid to write a sizzling novel about the unscrupulous music industry through the eyes of a rising rap star, his longtime girlfriend and the zealous groupies who want much more than his autograph?
Twala Meju
Twala Meju was raised with strong Christian principles by a conservative mother and slew of protective uncles who played in the NFL. The songbird dreamed of becoming a famous vocalist and began writing poems, music and short stories at 9 years old. Even in her wildest epic she never imagined that her story would take her from her hometown of Gainesville, Florida to Atlanta, Georgia, Gambia, West Africa and many moons in between.
Although Twala imagined that she'd make her mark behind the mic, in 1997, Twala Meju began a behind-the-scenes career in the hip hop industry that spans beyond a decade. Her lack of experience was outweighed by an undeniable diligence that enabled her to convince the brass at Power Records in Atlanta to give her an internship. This position quickly evolved into a junior executive role as a retail rep then lead to her working in virtually every capacity in the music field from A&R and road manager to promotions team and even starting The Thaimani Group, booking acts including Murphy Lee, Young Bloodz, Fat Joe, Cash Money Millionaires, Ashanti, Mike Jones, Master P, David Banner and Bone Thugs and Harmony.
Working for Leroy McMath's Power Records, Evander Holyfield's Real Deal Records, Nelly's Apple Bottom's and a number of other entertainment companies, the sensitive PK quickly assessed that she didn't want to be an artist after all. She witnessed the ...Expand for more
lows of wannabe stars sleeping in cars to the flossin of the famous. During her training, Twala had a front row seat to the antics of the music biz while dealing with drama of her own. She endured many challenges in her late 20's including the tragic death of her son's father.
Throughout her odyssey, Twala always viewed writing as a reprieve and developed many stories. In her new book; In Love With a Rap Star, the mild mannered author takes readers on an action packed all-access tour of the most exclusive circles in the entertainment world. Filled with colorful depictions of rappers, models, top executives, entourages, and groupies, Twala's "behind the velvet rope" perspective offers refreshing realism and suspiciously familiar themes.
Loosely based on personal experiences she encountered while working in the industry, In Love With a Rap Star introduces the fictional characters Sean; a popular rapper, his long time girlfriend Angel and the fanatic groupies who will stop at nothing to get at him. Readers are strapped in for the ride as the insatiable couple strives to maintain their relationship on the rollercoaster of Sean's superstardom.
Unlike other authors that have recently turned their personal experiences into steamy tell-alls, Twala Meju; who avoids the use of profanity at all costs, insists that her novel is merely a product of her creativity based on up close and unique observations, yet she blames her candid approach and no-holds barred writing voice on her alter ego.
In Love With a Rap Star fans and fiction fiends from all over might be eager to learn what other secrets her alter ego will dare tell.
