Tyler's Story
My life since graduating high school:
The timeline that you see on my profile pretty much tells the story of school and work. I went to VHCC for 2 yrs, then majored in exercise physiology at ETSU class of '03. Decided I didn't want to be an athletic trainer but part of my requirement to graduate was to do an internship for one semester. The internship was with cardiac rehab at Holston Valley Medical Center. There I was involved in or observed pretty much everything cardiac and pulmonary related. That is when I observed cardiac ultrasounds and found out that it was a good job that paid well and there were actually job opportunities out there. So, I went to Northeast State Tech. Comm. College to get my degree in cardiovascular technology. That is when I found out I could learn about congenital heart disease and even work in a children's hospital. This all made since given that I have personal experiences with cong. heart defects and love medicine.
During the time between graduating ETSU and graduationg from NSTCC I work at Bristol Regional as a pharmacy tech. Upon graduation NSTCC I concentrated my search for cardiac ultrasound jobs for children's hospitals. I ended up at the Medical University of South Carolina Children's Hospital. I really enjoy it. Plus, I get to watch cartoons with the kids during the exams and have interesting conversations with them. Oh and I get paid to do this...something that's a small part of something big and have fun at the same time.
I bought a condo on Johns Island, SC which is still in the charleston city limits. The beach is about 10 miles away (though I'll admit I don't go there as much as I should). I recently started getting into kayaking and am slowly working on checking off the "Places I Must Go Before I Die" list. Its a big list. I visit family and friends back in the tri-cities fairly regularly. Oh and if you must know I am probably one of the few from our class who still does not have kids nor is married.
I guess that's about it for now. I wish that more people had attended the 10yr high school reunion...we missed those of you who didn't make it. I do keep in contact with a couple of people from JSB '98 but I would like to hear from more of you. I do have a facebook page and myspace page. I don't use the myspace page that often.
