Valerie's Story
School
I remember...
-My kindergarten teacher, Ms. Wigfall...
-Ms. Dixon, Ms Meyers and Ms. Seaburg, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade teachers at PBS #61...
-Participating in the Spelling Bee Competition at PBS #62(shout out to Tonya Walden, Cretia Adams, Jacqueline Butler)...
-Being on the Drill Team and making a beautiful sundress (and blue jean skirt someone stole!) in Home Economics at Genesee Humboldt,(shout out to my Box Street crew- (Linda, Sybil, Zena, Oggie, Donna & Angie) also Velvet Jones, Daisy Overton, Marcella, Theresa Westfall, Daphne Henry, Faye & Terry Williams, Nona, Tonya Fuentes)...
-Running the 100 yard dash and 800m relay on the girls track team, and the adventurous bus rides while attending Southside Jr. High, (shouts out to Monique Kelly, Tonya Martin, Rita Crow)...
-I enjoyed being a member of the Drill Team and Track Team at JY. All the games and performances were enjoyable until the time we played at the Astrodome against Wheatley for the Championship, ...Expand for more
we won, and somehow I ended up on the wrong side and found myself surrounded by many angry Wheatley fans! I survived and made it to the bus unharmed and then waved my pom-pom's at their bus and shouted "Cream of Wheatley!" along with everyone else. I was inspired most by Mrs. McGar, my typing and shorthand teacher. She encouraged me to compete in the District Interscholastic Shorthand Competition. I was ecstatic when I won! I was also invited by my English teacher, Ms.Casarez, to participate in the English competition, but could only choose one. I often wonder how I would have done in English? (shout out to all the Drill and Track team members and fellow Class Of '81 classmates)...
-Anyone at Langston heard from my Sigma friend Terrence Clark (TC)? (shout out to Yvette, Linda, & Sharonda)
...Well it's been nice reminiscing, send a shout back! Looking forward to hearing from everyone.
College
I remember the all-nighters, but the 3.9 GPA they yielded made them easily forgettable!
