valerie's Story
I now live in Modesto, California. I was previously married, living in Sonora for 19 years. Prior to that, I was married to Jess who was born in Ada, OK, but came to the central Valley as a baby and lived in Modesto for many years. I have lived in many states and have travelled all over the USA, seen all the states except 10. I have been overseas many times, my first trip to Greece was in 1985 when I was searching for my birth family!. I am divorced and have two beautiful daughters and two grandsons, Matthew & Nicholaus. I attended Turlock High School and my last year was at Southgate High School in the Los Angeles area. After coming back to the Valley, I attended Modesto Jr. College earning a degree in Sociology & also classes in Columbia with an emphasis in literature, WWII & political science. I also took Greek classes at the Greek Orthodox Church of The Annunciation (Intermediate Greek). Currently, I run two organizations, Patras Orphans & Blue Sky Greek Adoptees World Organization, helping other Greek adoptees find their birth parents/family like I did in 1985....Expand for more
My story is unusual in that TWO women came forward claiming I was their daughter, but only through DNA 23 years later, was it scientifically proved who was telling the truth! But at least, I got to meet my real mother & know the horrific circumstances as to why she gave me into the cold arms of the Patras Orphanage. Years later after leaving my abusive/alcoholic father, she came back to get me but they told her I had died! So, I along w/ thousands of other children were labeled as orphans when in reality our adoption was illegal & a profitable business for the Greeks involved in these schemes! However, I am blessed since I also found out I have seven brothers and one sister (two have already passed away), many cousins, aunts/uncles, meeting all of them - I am thankful To know who I am, why I was given up and why my odyssey took to me to America as a child. I now hold dual citizenship after three years of dealing w/ the Greek government proving I was of Greek descent! I am happy at this time in my life, have had many ups & downs, but all in all, God has been good to me!
