Victoria's Story

I did not graduate from ANS because we left in '79 but the 1983 graduates are my cohort. In '79 my family moved to Mississippi, my dad's birthplace. We lived in Natchez, MS and Raymond, MS. I went to High School in Natchez. I went to Ole Miss from 1983 to 1986, got my BA in English and Biology, then in 1989-1991 I switched to Spanish for an MA. iel Martin, also lives in Lakeland. My younger brother, Michael, lives in Alabama. Since he was only 8 year old when we left ANS, I'm not sure how much he remembers. I remember the 1972 earthquake, I remember the BECATS right before we left, but I also remember the lakes and volcanoes, el Mercado Oriental, la cuajada, Pancho Madrigal, el Palo de Mayo...it's a long list. Right now I'm in Costa Rica for three more weeks teaching Spanish with a Study Abroad program for my UNC students. It's great to see some names from the past, Diriangén and Waldtraut!
