Virgil's Story

I really progressed as a Army Officer. I had three combat tours: two in Vietnam and one during the Gulf War, where I commanded a battalion size unit. I met my wife in Fort Worth, Texas. She was completing a masters degree in Foods and Nuitrition. We were married in 1978 after an 8 year romance. We had two children a boy Joseph and a girl Kimberly. Joseph passed away as a result Type I Diabetes complications in 1998, he was attending Texas Tech University. My daughter married and had a baby boy three years ago. I completed a degree in Political Science, received a BSW in Social Work and a LCSW in Social Work. I just recently completed a PhD in Clinical Psychology at Texas A&M University at College Station Texas. During my military career I flew over 7600 hours, 3200 of which were combat hours. During my military career I served all over the world, less Iceland,Greenland and the two poles. I worked as a junior aide under General Pete Dawkins at the White House and contined to fly one of the presidential helicopter with Presidents Ford's and Reagan's administration. I carried the presidential medical staff and physcian. I attended The United States Army Command and General Staff...Expand for more
College. I retired at the grade of Colonel. After retirement, I finally got to work in the mental health field. I worked with San Antonio Police Department on cases of sexual molestation and abuse. We investigated cases, brought them to court and testified against the alledged criminal. Lynn still works for the school district and I am retired. Update#1: I had a medical device placed in my spine called a spinal cord stimulator. The device sends vibrations at a certain frequency through my legs and spine. The vibrations neutralize pain signal going to the brain. This took me off of a truckload of pain medications. Spine is inoperable according to neurosurgeons. They are all afraid I will end up worse than before surgery. Oh, well thanks to Vietnam. Update #2: 1/17/2009 Dad passed away on 1/7/2009 he was 99 years young. Although his passing is bitter/sweet he had a great life and will be missed. Update #3: Doctor diagnosed me with Chronic Kidney Disease Stage 3. Update #4 4/23/2011 My wife had back surgery on L4 with fusion and addition of cadaver bone. I am expecting that she will be well enough to care for me so I can have a pretty complicated back surgery in September.
