Virginia's Story
Life
We had a wonderful life working together in our motorcycle dealership. We sold Yamaha and Harley Davidson motorcycles. We opened our business in 1958 and sold out in 1992. We rode thousands of miles and sponsored many rallies and runs. We sponsored an off road race team and attented many National races. We had all the good toys. Bob and our son raced off road races and our daughter rode and showed quarter horses while in high school. We lived close to our business and our kids worked in the business when they were old enough. As I write this, 2005, we are looking to celebrate our 50th Anniversary in July. We have two great kids who gave us a total of 12 grandkids and 2 great grandsons. It's been a very wonderful life!!
Workplace
My husband, Bob, and I owned and operated our own business, Dillon Cycle Sales, Inc. in Caldwell, Idaho, from 1958 until we sold out in 1992. We sold motorcycles, snowmobiles and ATV's. s with us when they were small. I was riding motorcycles when you didn't see any women riding.
Motorcycle people are just the best. I have had some of our classmates come in to buy parts and it was always fun to let them know that I remembered their names and when they went to Poky Hi. We sponsored a HOG (Harley Owner's Group) Club and a Venture Club for Yamaha. We hosted many rallies and runs with our clubs. We also sponsored an off-road race team and attended and participated in many National Races. It was a really great life. We worked more hours than I care to think about.
We sold out in 1992 and retired from working. We bought a big 5th wheel RV and full-timed for four years before we decided we liked our house better. Now we just travel to Arizona in the wintertime.
Bob restores and shows his Chevy hotrods and we attend several car shows through the Northwest every Summer. We now have 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandsons.
I guess our hard work paid off because we have been retired for 13 years. I just hope we don't outlive our finances.
