Wade's Story

After I left Bremerhaven we moved to Laurel Montana while dad was in Nam Tried college where I played soccer but I was a wandering soul. My 20s were full of adventures. Climbing, mountaineering, and backpacking were developed and later led to outfitting. I also became a decent guitar player and played in several bands. Also during this time I struggled with drug and alcohol abuse. Wandered from job to job. Worked as a logger and did turn arounds at a refinery. Then housing construction. In my mid 30s I put the drug and alcohol abuse behind me. I became an EMT and led our non motorized S&R when I lived in Cooke City MT. Was right in the middle of the Yellowstone fires in 1988. Our camp got overrun and escaped unharmed. In 1989 I helped lead ...Expand for more
the fight to oppose the development of the New World mine near Cooke City. We actually were able to halt that development and got Noranda Minerals to pay for the cleanup of the superfund site. Then off to college where I earned my BS in nursing in 1997. In 1996 was selected as the National nursing student of the year. At this time I met my wife Marlene and got married for the first time at 45. Worked oncology and hospice before entering grad school at age 50. Got my Masters of Nursing and passed my boards to be a Nurse Practitioner. Practiced chronic pain management until I retired in 2019. We have been traveling through the west and still enjoy hiking and multi day river trips in our inflatable kayaks. Can’t complain life has been good to me.
