Walt's Story

Life I was born and raised in Southern California, attending school there through 6th grade. In 1971, our family moved to Hastings, Nebraska where I attended Junior and Senior High School. In '71, when my family moved from Orange County California (population 8 million) to Hastings, Nebraska (population 23,000), I was a tanned surfer-dude with hair long enough I could sit on it ... and I did not fit in too well. But, I would not trade my Hastings upbringing and mid-Western values for anything! I have been married to the former Janet Marquardt (Adams Central class of 1977) since December 1977. We celebrate our 33rd anniversary in 2010. Son Christopher is 24, and is a finish carpenter. He married Michelle Sooter in May 2009. He plays semi-pro soccer as a goalkeeper with the Tulsa Revolution team and the Oklahoma Falcons PDL team. Chris completed his Eagle Scout project in June 2003. Daughter Catherine is 20, and attends Rogers State University where she is working toward a degree as a Physical Therapist. Cathy earned her Girl Scout Silver Award in May 2003. Jan and I left Hastings in 1984, moving to Tulsa, OK where I worked for The U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees). I left the Jaycees in 1994, and worked in an insurance brokerage for a few years. In 1999, I joined the DAC Services division of Total Information Services. Purchased in 2002, the company became known as USIS HireRight/Commercial Services, the largest employment screening and background investigations company in North America. For 10 years, I served as the company training coordinator. In January 2009, along with 150+ other good people, I was laid off from HireRight. Jan and I started our own businesses to create multiple lines of ongoing and residual active and passive income. I am in the financial services business; I do business consulting and training on a contract basis; I do contract work as a speaker and emcee; and Jan and I operate our own online shopping mall. We are members of the Oklahoma Cornhusker Club, and travel to games whenever we can. We spent a couple weeks in SoCal over the 2001 Holidays, and had 6th-row seats at the 2002 Rose Bowl. We do not seem to get back to Hastings as often as we would like, but when we do we pack in lots of visits with family and friends. Having traveled to 49 states and 9 countries, I can say, with some authority ... there is no place like Nebraska! School My elementary school experiences were all in Southern Ca...Expand for more
lifornia. I attended Kindergarten at Rosita Elementary school in Garden Grove, CA. I attended St. Barbara Catholic School for first, second and part of third grade. The majority of third grade was back at Rosita. After school district testing, I was bused to Crosby Elementary school for their fourth grade Major Work Classes. Fifth and sixth grade Major Work Classes were at Lincoln Elementary school. In 1971, my family moved from California to Hastings, Nebraska. I attended Hastings Junior High School, and Hastings High School. In 1984, my wife and I moved to Tulsa, OK. I attended management classes at Tulsa Junior College. My "higher" education came through my work with the Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees). My work there took me to 48 states and 9 countries training, marketing and promoting the organization and its services. Workplace While in High School, I worked at Allen's Department Store, Kings Food Host and Pedersen's Mobil Service. After High School, I continued with Pedersen's until Red retired. Then I went to work for Mid-City Auto for a few years. From there I went to Halloran Battery and Electric for nearly 5 years. In 1984, we moved to Tulsa where I spent 10 years with The U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce traveling around the world conducting leadership training. After the Jaycees, I managed a life and health insurance brokerage before moving into the training field. Started as DAC Services 26 years ago, the company helped trucking companies comply with DOT background screening requirments. In 2002, DAC/TISI was purchased by U.S. Investigations Services, the largest provider of personnel security services in North America. Until January 2009, I was a training coordinator and assisted with training nationwide for USIS's 7,300+ employees. In January 09, my position was eliminated in a force reduction. I started my own company, Infinite Possibilities Group, soon to be re-branded Hansmann and Associates, with multiple income streams ... speaking, training, consulting, personal coaching, financial planning, and dream building. I recently earned the coveted Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) from the American Society fo Training and Development. I am active in Toastmasters International and have the Competent Communicator and Advanced Leader Bronze designations.
