Walter's Story
Life
The most significant chapter of my life began at age 52 when I met and fell in love with a woman 34 years younger than I. When we met Crystal already had a daughter, (Shelby born in 1995) whom I subsequently adopted. Together Crystal and I had 3 children, a girl (Daphney born in 1997) and 2 boys (Adrian born in 1999 and Gabriel born in 2002). Unquestionably these beautiful kids are the center of my universe. Sadly, after some seven happy years together, significant marital problems began to develop After repeated separations and attempts at reconciliation, in May 2007 our marriage came to an end with the three youngest children living with me as custodial parent and Shelby living with her mother. Out of all of this one thing became perfectly certain--the discovery of my true purpose in life; and that is to raise these children the best way I can so that they may grow up to be happy, healthy, responsible adults with a true appreciation for all the great things that life has to offer. I also have one son (Matthew C. Jacob II, named after my father) born 7/10/80 by a previous marriage.
Behold ! In May 2006 I started my retirement, something I never anticipated being able to do at age 62. But the opportunity presented itself and my children needed my full time attention. acility located in Clinton, MO. Previously I had a very successful, 25-year career as a healthcare human resources executive at a variety of mid-size and large acute care facilities (hospitals). This was followed by a 10-year entrepreneurial adventure in high-tech retail sales, a decade of trial and error that taught me the most important lesson in my life: success and happiness comes only from choices that come from the heart. Discover one's own strengths and leverage on them and avoid choices that require strengths one does not have. At this point in my life, as I look around me, I cannot help but realize that I have been truly blessed. Financially, I have far less than I would have hoped to have at my age. But what I do have, all the money in the world cannot buy -- 5 wonderful children, including one who is already grown, out of college and on his way to a very successful career, a daughter who lives with her mother and visits with her siblings and me every other weekend, and the three most beautiful children in the world who live with me and visit their mother and half-sister on alternating weekends. Indeed, I am a fortunate man! Of course, there is one thing missing -- a good woman looking for the love of a good man (at least I try to be) and the joy of helping to raise three very loving children. My favorite quote: "Success is getting what you want; happiness is wanting what you get." (author unknown)
