Walter's Story
College
Well I have spent a lot of time in College. After HS I graduated from St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa. (near Pittsburgh where I majored in Business Management. After three years in the Army and in the Vietnam War I changed a lot and pursued a masters degree in Counseling from State University of NY at Plattsburgh in the very North country of NY state. I attended University of Vermont for post gradute work in psychology and finished a PHD in psychology in southern California at William Lyon University in 1986.
Personally, I have travelled a lot of different paths since Saint Cecilia's....leaving NJ to go to Pittsburgh brought with it new vistas, new perspectives and a much more liberal attitude. After college the shock of being a reluctant participant in the southeast asia war games of 1969, better know as the Viet Nam War made me an observer of and participant in some of the best and the worst of human behaviors. The choices of life made clear to me at that point were to serve others or to serve myself. I chose others, not in a co-dependent way but as a conscious decision to better myself and to find God. Since that time I have been very interested in studying the mind and I thought it best in doing so to start with studying my own mind. hat the Dalai Lama says, " we are all the same- we all want the same thing- to be happy". Six years ago I met my wife, Bonnie who is a Protestant Christian minister and we are very gratefully spending as much time together as possible. We are very happy.
Family wise, I have a son and a daughter - Katie Marie,26 and Jackson,33 who are living their lives well. Katie is in NYC studying design and Jackson is in Tucson Arizona following his grandfathers path in the restaurant business. Bonnie's sons are David,23 who also is in Tucson at the University of Az studying Economics until he graduates in May 2008 and Ben who is here at the University of San Diego. They are fine young men. My parents are no longer with us on the physiacal plane but I am grateful to have two loving sisters, Linda (Saints class of '61) Rutt and Marianne Dal Cero. Their kids are having babies and expanding the family population which is a joy to us all.
I enjoy keeping in touch with old friends. In the past 10 years I have either seen or been in email or personal contact with Bill Rosendahl (we went to college together as well), Chuck Cassidy, Thom Blazedell, and others. Charlie Leeuw and Pete (class of'60) and Paul (class of '64) Fimbel have been lifelong friends from Norwood till today.
I truly feel blessed by the wonderful people who have graced my life. Thank all of you who have known me and those who have given of themselves to me. I am richer because of you and all that life has brought me.
