Warren's Story
Life
I attended the Princeton Missouri School System through my junior year when my family moved to Winnemucca Nevada where I graduated in 1974. After high school I attended the University of Nevada Reno, receiving my B.S. in Accounting in 1978. I went to graduate school at the University of Missouri - Rolla, receiving my M.S. in Computer Science in 1981, and spent time at Bell Labs in New Jersey and Livermore Labs in California. I moved to Oregon State where I received my PhD in Computer Science in 1986. After grad school I taught at the University of Portland until 1988 when I moved to Portland State University where I am currently employed as a Full Professor of...Expand for more
Computer Science.
I served as Department Chair in the 1990s and was appointed Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Software Magazine in 2003 and I served as the EIC until the end of 2006. I recently received the IEEE Golden Core Award for my contributions to the IEEE Computer Society.
In my spare time, I serve as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff for my county and enjoy spending time with my dogs, two sons and my wife (not necessarily in that order).
I have been fortunate to have a job that has taken me around the world. Over the last couple of years I have spent time in Shanghai, Capetown, Sydney, Banagalore and London, but still think Oregon is the best place in the world.
