Wendy's Story
Life
After graduating from RIC in 1991, I grabbed my diploma and moved to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. I married a wonderful Godly husband (Wayne) in 1993, and we are blessed with three precious little boys......Connor (born January 1996), Tristan (born February 1999)and Trevor (born October 2002). Although I love where we live, I still miss Newport, Block Island, coffee Awful-Awfuls at Friendly's and definitely Dels!
My days are joyously busy homeschooling and traveling with my husband and children to renovate our home in the mountains. One foot in the sand and one in the mountains--can't beat that!
My husband and I colloborated on a screenplay and completed it in December 2005 and it is presently in the hands of a local producer. As for me, I have a few children's books written and in various stages of completion. Someday, I'll get them published. Also, in the process of writing another screenplay to hopefully be filmed locally. (in NC)
My days at WCVY have paid off, even if it is more than 20 years later. I am a part-time dj for a small Southern Gospel radio station. It's a bunch of fun and a neat ministry opportunity to reach thousands of people. Go to triple w dot wjfjradio dot com and click on staff to see me at the tiny studio.
Please e-mail me to let me know how you're doing! It's always nice to go back and reminisce.....looking forward to reconnecting and possibly ...Expand for more
forging some new friendships now that we're getting older and wiser--ha!
College
In some ways it seems like just last week I was moving into Browne Hall suite 6A at RIC with eleven other girls. All in all, it was a positive experience, although there were one or two girls that we could have done without--caused total chaos. It's nice to be in touch with several of the girls from 6A after all these years--lifetime friendships were formed.
I'm embarassed to say that I do not remember many Thursday nights, and I "drove the porcelain bus" more often than not. Yes, those were the designated drinking nights. There were some keggers on the golf course, going to Steve's down the street, playing quarters at Joe's room, and who could forget the awesome parties at The Living Room!
Working at the Coffeeground was lots of fun--that's when there wasn't any such thing at a Barista--all we has was "regular" or "decaf" for choices. Oh, yeah, the slush puppy machine decorated the sleeves of many of my shirts--spots! Danny Smith was a great boss and an all around great guy.
Grabbing my diploma was a sweet event. Majoring in elementary and special education has paid off. I ended up having my first teaching job in a (pathetic, backwoods) county in SC near Hilton Head. It was the worst district in the state, which made it one of the worst in the nation. HOWEVER, I now am blessed to homeschool my children.
