Wesley's Story

After High School, it was off to Jacksonville University under an NROTC scholarship. I graduated and was commissioned in the Navy in 93. I was off to flight school and received my wings of gold as a NFO and reported to my first squadron. Several cruises (why do they call 6 month deployments spent flying over adversarial country a cruise) later and I went to graduate school at Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA (hardship tour, I know). I met my wife, Jill while in my first squadron and we were married while I was at NPS. From there, we were off to Long Island, NY for several years working on the next version of the E-2C Hawkeye (plane I flew in). I was selected to serve 6 months during that tour, in Afghanistan...Expand for more
, which was an eye opening experience. Not certain why a fixed wing Naval Aviator was sent to an Army base in a land locked country, with nothing but helicopters, but hey... We then went to Southern MD (Patuxent River NAS), for the next two years, where I learned quite a bit about designing and acquiring Naval Aviation platforms and such. We left MD and moved to the DC area, where I started working on space related activities (I actually got a chance to use my Master's degree from Monterey, can you believe it?). We had our first child in Sept 2008 and it has been a life altering experience! We are not sure what is next, but are excited to see what unfolds for us..... perhaps Japan for the next 3 years, we shall see.
