Wilbur's Story
Graduated from Goddard High School 1966. Enlisted in the US Navy summer of 1966. Completed Navy Boot Camp and attended Navy Hospital Corps School. Transferred to the US Naval Academy Hospital in 1967, spend 13 months at the Academy and then was transferred to the Republic of Viet Nam (June 1968), returned to the States in July 1969
Served with the 3rd Marine Division, 2nd battalion 9th Marines, home base Dong Ha Viet Nam. Last duty station was at the Anacostia Naval Station, Washington DC. Discharged from Navy on a April 1970.
Returned to New Mexico, but moved to Las Cruces. Spent 9 1/2 years asa a Las Cruces Police Officer. Attended New Mexico State University (NMSU) and graduated with a Bachelor Degree (Criminal Justice). Married my wife in Feb 1972. Have three sons.
Re-enliste in the US Navy in Nov 1979. Have been stationed in San Diego, CA on the USS Ranger,,CV-61, transferred to Subic Bay Philippines in 1983 and returned to the US in 1985. Promoted to E-7 in 1985. Moved to Norfolk VA, assigned to the USS Bainbridge CGN-. Commissioned as as an Ensign (Limited Duty Officer in...Expand for more
1985), transferred to Diego Garcia (Indian Ocean) as the Security Director. Returned to Subic Bay in 1987, assigned to the staff of COMNAVPHIL. Transferred to Naval Station, Ingleside Texas as the Security Director, was then transferred back to Norfolk, VA while stationed on the USS Nassau LHA-4 being being transferred to my last duty station at Naval Support Activity Naples Italy where I served as the Security Director, retired in March 1, 1997 and returned to Las Cruces.NM.
Upon returning to Las Cruces, I accepted employment at White Sands Missile Range as a Supervisory Police Officer, remained in that capacity for approx 6 years, then I transferred to the Physical Security Section of the Law Enforcement Directorate. In 2005, I accepted a Supervisory Physical Security in Rota Spain. I transferred back to White Sands 1n 2008. IN 2009, I accepted a position in Natick, MA where I am currently employed.
My next move will be back to Las Cruces, when I retire from my Civill Service position (once again). My wife (Lynn) and I are still happily married.
