William's Story
I retired from the U.S. Army as a Colonel in 2005 after 30 years of active and reserve service. During my career, I served in various Armor and Military Intelligence positions in South Korea, the United States, and Germany.
One of my most rewarding experiences during my military career was leading two separate Joint US-North Korean Missing in Action (MIA) recovery teams to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea) (September-October 2001 and July-August 2002) in search of missing U.S. servicemen from the Korean Conflict. While there, I served as the Senior U.S. Government Official in Pyongyang, North Korea during each of these month-long recovery operations. We successfully located, recovered, and brought home to their families what were believed to be the remains of 14 missing servicemen on the first mission and seven on the last mission.
I have a BA in Political Science from the University of Detroit, an MPA (Public Administration) from Western Kentucky University, an MA in International Relations from Boston University, an MS in Strategic Intelligence from the Defense Intelligence College, and an MA in Strategic Security Studies from the National Defense University. I also did graduate study in International Terrorism at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel. I am also a graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College, the Army Management Staff College, and the Naval War College.
My military awards include the Legion of Merit, two Meritorious Service Medals, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, five Army Commendation Medals, the Army Achievement Medal and the Air Force Space Operations Badge.

I am currently a Doctoral Candidate (Liberal Studies/International Relations) at Georgetown University in Washington, DC.
I have authored two recently published books on North Korea: "Orders, Decorations, and Medals of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea" (DBM Press, 2008) - a ground breaking book on North Korean medals and "Understanding the North Korea Problem: Why It Has Become "The Land of Lousy Options"" (USAWC/SSI, 2011)
In my spare time, I am the owner and manager of DBookmahn's Used and Rare Military Books, Burke,VA. (at UsedMilitaryBooks.com) We will celebrate our 25th Anniversary in business in 2022. I am also a board member of the Washington Area Antiquarian Bookdealers Association.
In 2008, I established an independent publishing house - DBM Press, LC. in Springfield, VA. (at DBMPress.com) DBM Press,LC is a licensed independent publisher in Virginia specializing in quality non-fiction and scholarly hardcover books. We published our first two books in 2008, both of which won national awards and we currently have six titles in print. In August 2013, we released our first audiobook.
