William's Story
Hmmm, well, where to start. Guess I'll start when I went back to school in '87. Started college at ENMU-Roswell due to some health problems that came up to the point where I wasn't able to be stay in business with my dad in the custom harvesting business. Went to ENMU-R for a couple years and then transferred to NMSU in '93. Finally got out of Roswell and was determined to never move back. I haven't. I finished up my college work in '97 with a Master's of Agriculture Degree in Marketing/ Business. My GPA was awesome...funny how that works out, My high school GPA wasn't that great but my college GPA damn! I r smart lol. Anyways, I also worked as a contractor for one my professors for a short time doing feasibility studies and until that ran out. I was lucky enough to able to pick up an interesting position with a new pest management program starting here. A cotton farmers association in the fall of '98 was setting up a Boll Weevil/Pink boll worm moth eradication program for the local cotton farmers. To make a long story short I'm still here (2022) as a Field Unit Supervisor. I cover four counties, Don Ana, Sierra, Luna and Hildago. But alas, this shall too come to an end soon, That's fine I'm ready to retire. During this time I got married on June 23, 2018 to a lovely lady here in Cruces, Yup took me 63 years to find the right one! We literally worked across the street fro...Expand for more
m each other when we met. She is at the BLM district office. We are in the process of building an off-grid rammed earth block home. Man, what a process its becoming. Update on the house (2022) decided not to be off grid, too damn expensive for one. We do have all the utilities installed, Well, electric, sewer and a storage building. Just waiting on NM CID to get their collective s**t together and okay the building plans. We also kinda started a cat rescue of sorts. We trap ferals and get them spayed or neutered then release them back into the colonies. We also trap the kittens and tame them down for adoption. So far we have trapped 19 adults and 35 kittens. We foster through Cat's Meow here in Cruces. Get your pets fixed PEOPLE!! Other than that, that's pretty much it. Oh, I need a new knee woohoo! Via con dios.
Update: Got a new knee Jan 10, 2023 and doing great, Now I probably need my left shoulder replaced, oh what fun. Cats, cats and kittens oh my. To date we have spayed or neutered 70 feral cats and released them. We have also removed close to 120 cats and kittens from the park. We have seen a decrease in cats but stupid people keep dropping more off and won't get the ones they have fixed. GET WITH THE PROGRAM. Getting closer to getting the house built and I retire this fall. Bout f**king time. Can't wait to move out of town. And yes, I'm acting like Otto everyday!
