William's Story
Went to Foothill for a couple of years after HS, main interest was writing for the paper (the Foothill Sentinel). Basically drifting, I dropped out and joined the AF since the draft was a factor and I didn't want to go in the army and get shot at in Viet Nam. The AF, in it's great wisdom, made me (terrible at math and science) a medical corpsman. During my 4 years in the AF I became interested in medicine and took some night school courses. While moonlighting as an orderly at a civilian hospital I met a gorgeous RN and we got married a year later. ng but math and science courses. Transferred to US Berkeley and graduated in 1973. Went to UC Davis for med school then did a residency in Emergency Medicine in Winston-Salem, NC. Never intended to stay in the south after the residency but moved to Hickory, NC and joined an ER practice there and never moved. Practiced Emergency Medicine for 30 years, then gradually retired, doing urgent care, occupational medicine, and prison medicine until I fully retired in Dec., 2019. Still married to Nancy, the gorgeous RN. Our daughter lives nearby. We traveled extensively in the US and internationally, but Covid has clipped our wings..
