Winnie's Story

Life Happy 40th Anniversary Everyone! We used to think that being 40 was really old and now we are 58! HA! One of life's little pranks. Since our last reunion, which I missed, Pete (whom I met in grad school at SLU) and I have achieved the Empty Nest finally. After living in Atlanta and Chicago, we moved back to St. Louis (Sunset Hills) because we wanted our sons to grow up here. As with the Class of '67, it is still a wonderful place to raise a family. Now I have dreams of spending winter in tropical weather and summer in cool weather, but that will have to wait until Pete gets tired of working. Our two sons are still in college. Zach(21) is a senior at SMU in Dallas and waiting for his MCAT scores. He hopes to go to med school at SLU or Mizzou as he wants to get back to Missouri. He has had enough of Dallas and misses winter with snow. Nich(19) is a sophmore at Duke University in Durham, NC. He is a Biomedical Engineer/Premed major in the 5 Year Graduate Program. Since he is still partying amd having a great time, we will have to wait to see where he is headed in the next few years. Once the boys started high school at Chaminade, I decided that I had done enough volunteering and went back to work. Then the idea of an empty nest and having my time all to myself lured me into retirement in December 2006 with huge plans ...Expand for more
to redo the house, pitch 20 some years of accumulation, get back in shape, do lunch--all of those great things. I have actually realized that I miss working. Although the house is still not cleared out and I am not in shape due to the lunches and dinners, I think I am going to start job hunting in the fall once the boys go back to school. Pete and I love to travel when we can. We were fortunate to spend 3 weeks in South Africa and 2 weeks in the Mediterranean this past year. South Africa is a trip of a lifetime, and I encourage anyone who likes to travel, loves nature, and enjoys different cultures to make it a point to visit. South Africa will stay in your heart forever. My goal is to visit Australia next. A highlight in my life every year is a "girl" trip. I and six of my sorority sisters from college meet in a different location every year for 5 days in July. We have been doing this for the past 30 plus years. There is nothing better to renew the soul than to be 20 years old, stupid, and silly again. I could not live without it. So far, life has been good; and I am looking forward to the second half of my life to see what it brings. I hope every one is doing well. I will not be able to attend the reunion as it is Parents Weekend at SMU so I will say HI to all of you now. Have a great time and enjoy old friends!
