Winton's Story

Life Graduated from Onondaga Community College in May 1979 with A.A.S. in Architectural Technology. Worked in the Architecture & Engineering business ever since. Recently had first bookpublished by PublishAmerica, a Christian Teen Novel called "THE PRINCESS OF POWER", volume 1 of the HEIRS OF THE KING series. E-mail me for book's web site address (it's really cool & wild!), and for how to get the book. JESUS IS MY LORD. Married to my wife DIANNE since April 1992 - we have 2 kids (ALLAN and NIKKI) whom I love very much. School On Thursday September 10, 1964, I entered Kindergarten at Euclid School on Euclid Avenue in Schenectady, NY. That old 3-story school will always stand out as the very favorite of all public schools that I attended, carrying with it the best friends and the best memories. Those little penthouses atop each of the four stairwells were really neat. The 3rd floor, probably added on top of the original 1925 school, was also really cool, 'cause it was up high, high above the surrounding trees and houses, and much more modern and updated than the lower two floors. I remained there 'til early fourth grade in October 1968. In 1972, I learned that Euclid School was no longer used as a school. In 2003 I heard that the building was gone, but a 2005 visit to the site proved the building was still there, now being used as a church. From October 1968 to October 1970 I attended Pashley School on Pashley Road in East Glenville (suburban Schenectady), NY, but in the Burnt Hills - Ballston Lake School district. Around the school there were wildernesses to explore for a 4th & 5th grade boy such as myself - creeks and brooks to play in, treehouses to build, railroads to watch trains, small farms and horse meadows, and other guys to play baseball, football, and basketball with. In October 1970 we left the Schenectady, NY area for good and part of my heart was lost with it. From October 1970 to June 1977 it was off to Penfield, NY and the Webster Central schools around suburban Rochester, NY. I attended Plank Road school, Schroeder Jr. High, and Schroeder High School, all in that order. It wasn't the same as those schools in the Schenectady, NY area. What they called "the country" in the Hudson Valley, they called "the boonies" in Webster. But they did have the best fishing, the best farming & gardening, and the best food in the world, along with some of the world's most generous people, particularly if you attend a church that's ...Expand for more
part of the body of Christ there. College Onondaga Community College - I was glad to be there simply because these people had to be atleast somewhat more grown up than those immature kids from the Webster, NY Public Schools 85 miles to the west. And the OCC student were more grown up. So in August 1977 I started attending there. Set high atop Onondaga Hill, overlooking the city of Syracuse, NY below, OCC was a small and new, but pretty campus, divided in half by the infamous deep ravine, with it's creek that flowed towards the city below. For most curriculums, OCC was considered just a commuter school, with no dorms, and just a steppingstone to something else. But for those of us in the Architectural Technology Dept., it was a whole different story. Unlike the other departments, we were a closely knit group of people, and probably the wackiest, craziest group, too. We drew and painted pictures of our professors on the walls. Our professors smoked in class. One professor once walked into another professor's class (in session) and dumped hundreds of empty soda cans on the floor in the middle of the room. Another time a bunch of us got onto the roof of a building and threw snowballs at one of the professors as he was running for his car. We had no time for activities, so in protest of paying the student activities fee many students robbed / clean out the vending machines on the regular basis. We built our own house inside one of the classrooms, and that's where we'd sleep if had to do work all night, but didn't want security to kick us out. I remember waking up and walking out of the house the next morning while a class was in session. We'd launch rockets across the ravine in the middle of the night, and break into classrooms if we needed to get work done. We'd play with the elevator and stop it between floors. We'd go down into the plumbing tunnel and explore the school. Professors from the Engineering Dept. told their students to stay away from us, but we still managed to make a few friends with them. Despite all of this, we did manage to learn something - that studying was hard, but worth it. And most importantly I got to share my faith in Jesus Christ with many students. They knew I didn't smoke, drink, or do drugs like alot of them - most stayed in their dangerous ways, but still got along with me any way. It was kind of sad to have to leave OCC - the learning was over but eventually I graduated in May 1979, and went to work.
