Life
Graduated with Bachelors Degree in 1978, taught public school until 1983, joined the Army at age 29. Basic Fort Jackson, SC, AIT Ft Eustis, VA. , then assigned to 73rd Trans Co. Had TDY to Philippines in 1984 and England in 1984. But....on May 1, 1985 while in England I was involved in a vehicle crash, broken hip, crushed femur, just about did me in. Over the next 2 years I had 3 surgeries. In Apr 1987 I re-enlisted into Petroleum MOS, school at Ft. Lee, VA. In Sep 1987 I was assigned in Germany but once I got in-processed I was med-e-vac'd back to the states. I picked Ft. Sam Houston, in San Antonio Tx. I spent the next 18 months in the hospital but worked for the Chief of Orthopaedics. Had my 4th surgery in June 1988. Went before the Medical Board, they ruled TDRL, in Feb 1992 the Board ruled 10% and out of the Army. An appeal raised it to 20%. Since then I am under care of the VA. 1988 and August 2003 I lost all my family, a brother in 88, mother 98 and father 2003. My husband and I are retired now and living in Malone Tx, pop 280 on a good day. We have 5 cats and Susie the Beagle Tanner. I found Susie on the road run over, broken leg. My vet fixed her up exceptionally well. We recently built a shop for our show truck 22'X60', a 70 Chevy C10, we are near completion. Next is the new motor, street legal 800HP on 93 octane, once that is in, tint the windows and we are ready for the show. We plan to just show locally , like within 75 miles or so. I have continued to have health problems stemming from the car accident. In April 2004 I had back surgery, it helped some but not much. Getting around is a problem at times for me so I use canes/crutches. Due to PAD Peripheral Artery Disease in the legs I can only walk a short distance before I have to stop and let the blood catch up. But, all in all I'm doin' OK, Life is good and as always, Life goes on.
