Yvette's Story
School
I went to SBHS public high school, and did as much partying and running around as was possible while still getting good grades. I was a "techie" in many productions, but never landed a good theater role. I was on JV Basketball, but got tired of it. I was editor-in-chief of the school newspaper until I was fired for "smart-mouthing" the evil advisor.
College
I got into UCSC, my college of choice, and moved to Santa Cruz to become a Banana Slug. I spent 5 years reading and analyzing Science Fiction and doing mean psychology experiements on Freshmen. For this, they gave me two degrees in 5 years. Not bad.
There was a whole lot of more serious stuff going on of course. I worked in the Student Activities Office, for the Student Fee Advisory COmmittee and for the Chancellor's Office to help offset the costs of College. I worked every summer except the one I spent at UCSB taking a 15 unit quarter - OUCH!
I did some great research with Steven Wright, was a Teaching Assistant for many classes, and my Literature Thesis would have been awesome if I had ever turned it in.
Workplace
I worked for the University until '99, and mooched a free Training and Human Resource Development ...Expand for more
Certification. When I couldn't afford rent without a better job, I moved into the Manufacturing Industry, where I have been an Internal Training Consultant for five years in two different companies.
I work directly with management in my company to assess upcoming training needs and other development that supports the company bottom-line. I truly love training, organizational change, and human resource development.
Most recently I have become a consultant with a company called Creative Memories. They are the company that began the current "scrapbooking craze" seventeen years ago. When a truly overwhelming number of wedding pictures arrived on my doorstep, I knew I had to do something artistic with them.
I decided other people needed to know how amazing the creative memories mission, products and services are, so I teach classes on photographic preservation and safe, fast, beautiful memory albums.
I have ALWAYS been the most incredible pack-rat. If you were a friend of mine in school, I probably still have sentimental notes from you in a box somewhere. Creative Memories is the PERFECT outlet for all my creativity, my need to meet new people and share information I believe in.
