Zoe's Story

Life After higschool I took a year to attend Beal, take some more art classes and brush up my portfolio in order to be able to attend Concordia's very competitive photography program. A year at Western in Visual Arts/Art History came first then relocating to Montreal and diving into 3am bar closures, the newly emerging Rave scene and of course photography. I dropped out of Concordia after a short time and decided to attend Dawson College for their well known Commercial Photography program feeling the need for more technical instruction and guidance. I then returned home to London, Ont to finish up my degree at Western and received my BA in Visual Arts shortly after. My photography work has since been published by the Montreal Mirror, Hour Magazine and Canadian Art, and has been exhibited at various locations in Montreal and around Ontario In 2001 I completed a multimedia certificate program at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC, which helped to pique my interest in video production, interactive media and video game design concepts. Shortly after completing this program I started working at the Center for Digital Imaging and Sound (CDIS) a private media college in Burnaby, BC, in student advising and recruitment, production and special events. A takeover by a large US corporation caused me to do some major evaluating of my future and conseq...Expand for more
uently I decided to leave beautiful BC for Banff, AB and a position at the Banff Centre's Banff New Media Institute as the Co-Production Line Producer. In this position I had the opportunity of working with some of the worlds most innovative and interesting media artists, learned to snowboard, came face to face with Banff Bear 66 (a grizzly) and walked to work with bambi. After renewing my contract twice I realized it was time to return to the city and say goodbye to the grizzlies and elk and say hello to the ocean and coastal mountains once again. There is only so much steak and Ralph Klein a leftie like myself can stand... Just this April (2005) I started a new position at the Vancouver Institute of Media Arts (VanArts) as the Industry Liaison/Advisor. I get to attend conferences and trade shows like E3 (the biggest video game conference in the world) schmooze with animators, producers, art directors, game designers etc. It's as though the job was made for me! I am still a photographer and now an aspiring documentary filmmaker, I'm currently working on a documentary film and interactive media project on my father, the late Canadian artist Greg Curnoe. I'm still single and loving it, no kids and no plans for them...I don't think.... I wish someone would plan a Central Reunion this year because I am really curious to know what everyone has been doing!
