APPALACHIA, BIG STONE GAP, and EAST STONE GAP SCHOOL GRADUATES (Bears, Buccaneers, Buffalos, Bulldogs, Tigers, and Vikings) PLEASE - Suggest the name of a person or organization that you feel should be remembered with an MECC Foundation scholarship AND tell us if you are willing to sponsor, provide, or solicit donations for it. - Provide a mailing address if you didn't get a mailed invitation to the 2020 Annual Reunion. - Save the date: The 2021 reunion is scheduled June 26 - 27 in MECC's Goodloe Hall. - Respond via email to (please translate -at- and -dot- appropriately) Ann Marrs, PV '68 amarrs -at- verizon-dot-net OR Bob Marrs, BSG '59 grmarrs -at- gmail-dot-com WE WILL establish appropriate new funds and send a request for donations (probably via USPS mail with the reunion invitations). BECAUSE In 2020-21, the MECC Foundation's Buccaneer Scholarship Fund awarded seventeen scholarships totalling $28,000 to graduates of Union High School. A large portion of these scholarships were funded by Big Stone Gap High School alumni. Since the youngest BSGHS alumni will turn 80 this year, additional participation by other alumni will soon be needed to maintain and grow this scholarship fund. MECC Foundation experience is that people are more drawn to donate to funds associated with a person or organization that has had a significant impact on their life, hence the motivation for new funds - named for those that younger alumni hold dear.
