IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED IN ATTENDING, PLEASE EMAIL BACK TO RAYENCLASSOF1966 at AOL dot COM As a follow-up to our discussion at the last Class of 1966 luncheon, Ft Meigs is located at 29100 West River Road in Perrysburg, Ohio, 43551. It is a War of 1812 fort built under the leadership of William Henry Harrison during the Winter of 1813. It withstood two sieges by the British and Indians during that summer. This was the first time the British had been stopped in the western theatre of the war as they had blitzkrieged through the Michigan Territory in less than six months. If the fort had fallen, it is likely that the British and Indians would have captured most of Ohio in short order. This could have resulted in the US surrendering and the loss of the entire Northwest Territory. The US would have been a much smaller country afterward than it is today. I would like to invite as many of the Rayen Class of 1966 for a behind the scenes tour that I would be able to lead sometime in the next six weeks. Such a tour could be set up for anywhere between 5 and 30 people so car pooling would be the best way to get class members to Toledo. Plan on 3.5 hours from Youngstown. We would plan on starting between 1:30 pm and 2 pm and the tour would last for an hour or more and I can make it whatever length people would like. There will be walking involved just like our 55th reunion last year (but only one site this time). Afterward I can arrange for an early dinner at a nice Italian restaurant nearby. I will let Karen organize this on the Youngstown end. The fort is open on Wednesday through Sunday but I would recommend a weekday so that there will not be a large number of people there at the same time we are. I have given this tour to other groups of people that include family members and some archaeology friends that I work with from time to time and it has always gone very well. MORE DETAILS TO FOLLOW
