OK my Southwood class of 1971 friends. I have reserved the Mallard Bay pavilion at Illini State Park in Marseilles, Il for a 50th reunion. Yes... it has been 50 years since we graduated from Southwood. I remember Mr. Stelter telling us back then how unique we were in the United States because most junior highs only feed into one high school. He told us then that later in life, if we wanted to see each other then we would have to have our own get togethers because our junior high fed into 3 high schools. I didn't get it then. I have reserved the pavilion for Saturday, June 26th. 8 AM - 8 PM. The pavilion is right on the Illinois River. The boat dock is visible from the pavilion. You can bring your boat and we'll all try to get rides from you ! Fishing is both acceptable and encouraged in this area. There is a campground next door if you want to make a weekend of it. Although there are several picnic tables under the shelter, I think a wise person might bring a lawn chair so they would could keep a distance that is comfortable for them. We will need to be mindful that each person will have a different level of comfort with the Covid year we've had. It would be great if someone volunteered to be an activities director - found us some bags games - brought cards - encouraged each person to bring one book of pictures... etc. It would also be great if someone else was in charge of bringing the charcoal because without fail - I always forget the charcoal. I don't care who brings what... but bring something... chips...cake... salads... As people show interest we will try to make sense of what is appearing... but this is low key... this is not going to be a stressful gathering. Our class of '71 St. Emerick friends are invited to join us. Others that are connected to us may join us. I am not connected to everyone- so your help is critical in a successful reunion!
