Schools explained
Classmates' directories contain thousands of K-12 schools located in the United
States and Canada, as well as American or Canadian schools located overseas. We do not
currently support the addition of other schools.
The K-12 category includes any schools with grade levels from kindergarten through
12th grade. If your school only consisted of grades K-4 for example, it would be
listed under the K-12 category. The College category includes all schools after grade 12.
Since our objective is to help people reconnect we have established certain conventions
that will help ensure that regardless of how alumni remember the name of their school,
we can place you all in the same directory area:
- We include, and don't abbreviate, the words ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL, HIGH SCHOOL,
COLLEGE or UNIVERSITY in the school name.
- We have done some abbreviating with the names of towns and schools: MOUNT becomes MT., FORT becomes
FT., SAINT usually becomes ST.
If you don't see your school where you expect it to be located, take a little time to search
the possible alternatives (neighboring towns, consolidated districts, etc.). Send us email if
you see places where we've erred. Remember, we're looking for the same school even if the name
has changed over time. We appreciate your help in making Classmates as useful and accurate
as possible.
